Western Sydney Rams . NRC Official Team Thread

Shute Shield should move dates 1 week earlier in 2016, it's beneficial for everyone involved to do so, maybe they are worried that finishing earlier will deny them access to super rugby players at the back end of the season.

Also, isn't the Shute Shield governed by a body seperate from the NSWRU? I can't keep track of the multiple layers of bureaucracy in NSW Rugby.

I think it's the Stdney Rugby Union that oversee's the Shield. I would personally like to see it more aligned with Super Rugby. That way it would give the NRC a good prep period leading in to August.

Ideally there would be a 2 week break between QPR/Shute Shield Final and the start of the NRC.

I think a similar issue exists in Perth, the club season only finished last weekend.

All players in training this week, everyone apart from Woods contingent were last week.

Not sure what is the latest squad everyone has but some players at training last week were:

Tayler Adams
Brad Kapa
Barnaby Abdale-Weir
Max Holland

Apparently (maybe?) will be playing for the Rams on Saturday:

. . . Former Stags and New Zealand under-20 halfback Tayler Adams will line up for the Greater Sydney Rams in the Australian National Rugby Championship which starts on Saturday.

Adams had been part of the Rugby Southland setup since 2012 after he transferred from Auckland straight out of school. From Southland he made the New Zealand under-20 team in 2013.

Adams played 25 games for Southland and was this year part of the Star team which won the Galbraith Shield. However he missed Stags selection this year which prompted the 21-year-old to assess his options.

He has joined the Greater Sydney team with the hope to push his case for further honours in Australia. The Australian domestic competition is a nine team competition. The Rams will play NSW Country Eagles in their first game on Saturday . . .

Lets hope this is the beginning of more Kiwi/Fijian/Samoan/Tongan players seeing the NRC as a means to push their cause.. I don't care if they aren't eligible for the Wallabies, there are enough positions in the NRC that it doesn't matter.

Yep. It's actually something we should be actively encouraging. Something I've noted regarding Super Rugby is that we don't take enough advantage of our international depth. I'm not suggesting running out completely foreign rostered squads but there's a number of very good Rugby players out there that could help address our depth issues.

Weeeeeelllll, you'd like to think that. I mean, officially they are all separate little committees and whatnot but should align under the general term "New South Wales Rugby".

But ultimately, the thing is: the power brokers at NSW Rugby gives a slender few fucks for the NRC. Look at the lack of support from the NSWRU in terms of the Waratahs getting on board. This year and last. They should be promoting the fuck out of it through their social media at least (which costs half a hot dog per day in intern hours) but they don't.

Why is that?

Fact is some of the high-powered clubs whose name I shall not utter in pleasant company aren't interested in it. They're paying lip service, and not much else, because they're still premenstrual over the fact that it was organised without them being the organisers.

People here can (and will) deny it, or ask for evidence. Those people are usually wearing a particular jersey when they do (or fapping off into it).

But rugby politics, just like federal politics, is a law unto itself in these parts, and that's why the game will continue to struggle.

Clubs suck at this sort of thing.

The Welsh regions in general, and the collapse of the Scottish Borders is a testament to that.

Well, they'd better get over it because the NRC is secure until 2020.

I'm a club rugby fan and all but come on. Unless all of a sudden there's a large influx of funds and they can sign all the best available talent from across the country then they need to get over themselves.

Any word on the Rams <Choose one title - Development, A, B, Emerging, Under 20's, Gen Next> Team/Squad?

It seems that they will be having a game against the Canberra Griffins on 5 September?
There will be a Griffins rep squad that will play some curtain raisers to NRC games this year:

29 August v NSW Country B (NRC curtain-raiser)
5 September v Greater Sydney Rams B (NRC curtain-raiser)
24 September v Australian Services Rugby Union
28 September v Australian Services Rugby Union
10 October v Newcastle Emerging Wildfires (NRC curtain-raiser)
<snip>

What's happened to Jerome McKenzie? There's no mention of him in the Rams squad, and although his name has been bandied around as an addition to the Sydney Stars, he is not listed in their squad either.

Be nice if the ARU could occasionally have a look at the NRC page on rugby.com.au and update the 2014 Rams squad to the 2015 version. Surely that's not too much to ask.

Can anybody tell me much about the catering options at Granville Park on Saturday? A picnic/wine or beer would help me lure my wife down...

The burgers are the best in sydney rugby - not sure that will win over the misses though

Our reviewer for this match has pulled out. Anyone want to cover it for us? Pretty basic match review plus (1) turning point (2) GAGR mom (3) Oz Baabaa Watch - impressive non-contrasted player or 2.

Will also need a 3-2-1 for the match to go to the ARU for the NRC player of the year.

Any takers?
