Western Force 2021

Geez some Reds fan are salty... bloke did plenty of good things in a red jersey, and looked out for number 1 with a financial opportunity that was good to resist. Do not blame him one bit, it's a short career. How is what he did any different to say Samu Kerevi or Tim Horan going overseas - or BPA?

Article doesn't say from when or for how long.

Will be after Euro season, so like June - and it's for 1 season. 300-400k somehwere in there. No wallaby top up, but wallaby eligible immediately.

Will be after a 'real' contract for 2023 (and potentially onwards)

They didn’t leave mid season.......when everyone was going through challenges...and they didn’t use a pandemic as an excuse to just leave the club because they didn’t want to be at the club and we’re happy to go to another Australian club meaning the decision was not so much about the “financial opportunity that was too good to resist” but more about having a tanty because they missed out on the captaincy

Great to have Rodda back in Aus. Gutted at the ineptitude of NSWRU to let him get away..
Rebels and tahs can’t match the force cheque book and because of this the force will no doubt be pushing to be the top oz team in a another couple of years. Rebels at least not far of the pace with quality of roster but Rodda a big miss for both sides for sure.

Hardly let him get away... Tahs apparently offered pretty much the same $$ as the Force, but he decided that's where he wanted to be ... (after Twiggy whispered sweet nothings in his ear no doubt! ;) )

I personally think the Tahs may have dodged a bullet with this bloke. The whole reds departure was a really bad look and he took a serious reputational hit.. tough one to explain to your new teammates who pretty much to a man all took a financial hit during covid.

Overall I’m glad the guy is back in Australian rugby. Just recommend the Force be careful when he starts asking questions about captaincy...

Offering no more than others was letting him go imo. This was a huge missed opportunity. The Tahs need a player like Rodda more than anything. There isn’t anyone close to the benefit he would bring that is going to be available next year.

But if it is just that nobody wants to come to the Tahs? Well, that’s worse.

Forces cheque book is no bigger than the Rebels, or Tahs next year.

I reckon that there's usually two sides to every discussion - especially so when we're prepared to listen.
All we've really heard has been speculation.
However, it's obvious that Rodda and Thorn didn't get on well - from what Thorn's had to share recently.

Hodgo knows Rodda very well.

Turn the clocks back and Force fans felt the same way about Brand O'Connor. I hope there is a bigger story to it than just the captaincy or just money, and I suspect there is. Let the decisions he makes from here test the mettle of the man.

I can fully understand the reaction from reds fans and no doubt would feel the same if reds supporter but the reality is they used legitimate means to break a contract (sure other means driving it but still chose a legal loop hole they could apply) and hence was not going to stop rebels, force and tahs chasing his signature and given lack of quality locks glad to see our oz wallaby lock options strengthen as now got LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), philips and Rodda as international quality locks. If only can solve the fullback problem would feel otherwise pretty good about quality of players in other positions.

Fantastic to see another Wallaby Lock coming back home.
Should pair well with Sita next season.
Like the idea of Thrush coming off the bench for 20 minutes to create havoc.

Western Force secures Wallabies lock
March 16, 2021

The Western Force has signed Wallabies lock Izack Rodda, who joins the club from French Top 14 side Lyon Olympique Universitaire.

The towering second rower, measuring over two-metres tall, heads west with an abundance of Super Rugby experience behind him, having played 46 times for the Queensland Reds between 2017 and 2020.

From comments made at the recent recent WF Fan day the wages bill at the WF is the least of all 5 franchises.
Seems that it must be about management and building a culture - which hopefully becomes a winning one.

Let's be serious please, WF can't keep pulling out that old chestnut...

They are the only game in town when it comes to writing big cheques... Kearney, Cubelli, Miotti, Kuridrani, Godwin, Lezana, Medrano, Robertson, Stander, Pulu... and now Rodda!!

Assuming they're all playing for fun, not cash, you may well be right......
