poor bloke has been very professional about it. he said he wont make a decision till the end of the season and he is staying true to it. Fair enough. he looks good in blue and would look like a dick in a brumbies jumper so lets hope its good news

Cheika will be good for the force. He has a point to prove like link did when he came to the reds in 09, and he pretty much has a blank canvas to work with. Hopefully he gets some solid assistant coaches as Blake, Louden and Lane are all free at the moment.

Don''t pitty the Force. We will be back big time in 2013. Cheika as coach and Poey singed up. Half expect Sharpie to go around 1 more year.

I pleased to see Force are allowed and extra import next year, personally like to see them allowed 2 extras, just think it would help keep support for Force by them being more competitive, and this is quite important for S15 comp, keeping support in all areas.

Meanwhile, the Western Force still has a coach vacancy sign as Michael Cheika is set to reject their offer. The Force wanted Cheika, but it is believed he has or is about to turn them down.
It is understood this follows senior players issuing their displeasure that Force officials had failed in their promise to have a coach in place by the time of their last game. Cheika, who made his name as a No.8 at Randwick from 1985-1999, began his coaching career at Padova in 2001, had success at Randwick before joining Leinster in 2005 and transforming them into Heineken Cup champions. His most recent gig was with French club Stade Francais, which ended earlier this year.
Speculation that besieged Waratahs coach Michael Foley will head west will again intensify. Foley has been linked to the Force job several times in recent weeks as speculation has swirled over whether he would be retained by NSW next season after the Tahs' terrible 2012 campaign.

With credit to him, he writes crap about everyone. The force are actually a far lesser target of his than another team I know.

Daresay there are some Tahs execs very keen to insulate their hotseats by procuring Cheika.

Speaking of coaches, how about Lam sending up that post match rocket about staffing resources, bet that made a few kiwi suits choke on their sauv blanc!

Also from Growden today:

There is very strong mail coming from the west that Force skipper David Pocock will sign with the Brumbies. His partner, Emma Palandri, was in Canberra during the week being shown the sights and it looks certain the stand-in Wallabies skipper will take his talents to the national capital next season, especially considering his preferred choice as Force coach, Michael Cheika, is set to turn down the Perth franchise's overtures.

To give Growden some credit, he can be right on occasion.

I seem to recall him being the solitary journo reporting that Jake White wasn't heading to England earlier in the year.......

Well that would leave a massive hole.

The appointment of Cheika and retention of Pocock was the only thing Force fans had to look forward to. The feeling I get here in the west is that the Force can't afford to run out another lame duck coach and team. Credibility and reputation are truly on the line.

The Force need a home run announcement. They are listing badly, a double blow of Cheika turning down the coaching position and Poey leaving cold trigger a capsize akin to the "Poseidon Adventure".

if the media are to be believed im not sure cheika was the right fit. the timeline suggests the force approached him whilst he approached NSW. if true, it really shows a lack of passion for the position anyway. better off going with a coach who wanted the job as his first option.

Reds were in a similar postion a few years ago when barnes left but it all panned at well in the end. LAst night looked promising faulkner, cottrell, mcaffrey and godwin especially impressed me. give them a year or two and they willl be very valuable assets

It is what it is

Now you're starting to sound like 'the media' WJ.
You're speculating based on media speculation.
A clue I'll give you is when you use a couple of 'ifs' before you declare your position, you're probably not on the money.
If you knew how many half arsed, poorly represented/presented/followed up approaches Cheika had received from senior Waratah officials over the years you'd be embarrassed........none of these many approaches came from Cheika either.

Western Force will revert to its short list after Michael Cheika rejects offer to coach

MICHAEL Cheika's decision to reject an offer from Western Force has thrown the Super Rugby franchise's search for a new coach into disarray.

Force expected to announce Cheika as head coach this week after offering him the job, but informed sources say he knocked it back. It is understood the two parties failed to agree on money.

Cheika was also believed to be upset about details of the negotiation leaking.

The failure to secure Cheika's signature will mean the Force will have to revisit its shortlist of candidates, which included Scott Johnson, John Mulvihill and Eddie O'Sullivan.

NSW coach Michael Foley's name was also linked to Force, but the Waratahs have endorsed him to continue next year despite the team's disappointing season.

Uncertainty over the coach will not help Force's efforts to retain Wallabies captain and openside flanker David Pocock, who has had an offer from the Brumbies and been approached by Melbourne Rebels.

If Cheika had accepted the job, there was a good chance Pocock would have stayed at Force.

But Pocock's preferred candidate has always been Mulvihill.

Holy snapping ducksh!t, Batman

what a massive RugbyWA clusterfuck this whole process is turning out to be and has been all season. They seriously need to be given the arse, I have no confidence in their ability to manage the club. If they retain Poey it will be a minor miracle.

Quite frankly I'm surprised they manage to mail my membership card to me safely each year.

I'll wait till its official. Can't see it being in anyone's interest to fail to get within a whisker of an agreement at this late stage. Find it very hard to believe force management didn't flush out what Cheika was looking for and come back with a sensible offer to meet it.
