I can't for the life of me understand why we have a backslapping thread when we've just been bungled out of the WC with only a narrow, potentially underserved victory against South Africa to show for it. A flogging from NZ and a loss to Ireland clearly the low points.

Well done to Australia to even get to the semis. Thought they were superb last week.

My biggest concern for the Wallabies heading into the WC was the forward pack. Individually they have very talented players, even a couple that are world class, but they do not have the "pack" mentality because as a pack they don't have alot of experience together. Take for example the fact that Vickerman and Samo are there with young guys like Kepu or even Horwill. As a pack they don't have the gel or have learned all the instinctual stuff from each other. That's why you sometimes watch a Wallabies test match and you're left saying stuff like "Pocock was a lone ranger out there". This AB pack as an 8 has played alot of rugby together as a starting pack. They know the ins and outs of each other. They know where the man next to them is going to be. Much like the England pack 02-03 and the ABs of 87-88. IMHO without that your backs don't mean squat. Sure their billiance can turn games, but when it's tight and the heat is on and the pressure is building, you need your pack all on the same page.

The revolving door at no8 and at prop and lock has been a massive issue over the last couple of years.

I think that the Wallaby team from Brisbane would have gone close.
Frankly, I wonder whether the prospect of us starting as we did in Brisbane wasn't busted as soon as the first kick off went out on the full. and if we didn't start strongly it was all over

For what its worth IS, I think Pocock and Horwill are class players. Didn't have the best of nights tonight, but last week were awesome against a relentless Bok pack. Their individual skills and ability is excellent. Horwill has impressed me over the last 12 months with his improved technique at the breakdown in particular.

But I guess that's part of the point, a couple of standouts may get you a win every now and again, but rugby is the ultimate team game and when the heat is on, a team performance - starting with all your forwards playing on the same song sheet - is what is needed

Should have made it clear I'm talking about the next World Cup. Not next year.

Barnes - Concussion or 3 away from retirement, Turner is reliant on pace - already 27 and can't crack it and Australia is inept at training for genuine pace. And Benny A is 27 too. Would like to see us keep him around but it is doubtful he will be there in 4 years time given the lack of Baxter this year.

Who will be our new 8? That is biggest question for me. A still young Houston is lost to France so who will step up now? Vaea? Who is/can be good enough?

Historically you probably need 4 world class players to win a RWC. NZ have their 4...not sure les bleus do

Some of the behaviour on the forum tonight has made me ashamed to be Australian. Ashamed to be a member of this forum.

These blokes have trained and played their hearts out all year, and yet some here have reacted to this loss with what can only be described as thinly veiled glee. Hooray! Another opportunity to put the boot into Robbie Deans, Quade Cooper, and whoever else has had the temerity to take the field in a gold shirt this season. Hooray! Another chance to tell everyone about the dire predictions I made at the start of the year and THAT I AM RIGHT!! WE DID LOSE!!! Fucking yeah!!!

You see the thing is I don't mind you critiquing the players performance, after all that is what this forum is for. We have game threads for that, and you can say whatever you like in them.

But this wasn't the game thread. This was the thread to say thankyou to the guys who were out there tonight, playing their hearts out for us. And say what you want about the tactics or the execution, but they were fucking trying their guts out. And I think that is worthy of congratulating. Not every game, but after a long and exhausting World CUp campaign that has seen them seperated from their families and friends and training every day.

But apparently some of you aren't even good enough supporters to do that. How can you seriously call yourselves fans if you can't even say a simple 'thank you' to a team who has invested everything they have over months just to please you? Sure they came up short but who cares? They are OUR team. This is what proper fans do.

Fuck me I thought it wouldn't have to be this difficult.
