I went for Carter over Timani based on his consistent form this year but I would also settle on that squad...

Will sharpe get another year in Gold... I'd be surprised... Horwill is now the senior lock... give the young guys a shot, Carter, Pyle, Fardy, Simmons, Douglas...
Kimlin is starting to look good also...

Sharpe is the best lock in the country, if "form" is the key to selection then he would be one of the first forwards picked.

Sharpe will surely play out the rest of the test season, and then one of either Carter, Pyle, Fardy, Timani (or whoever misses out on the domestic test season) will get their chance on the end of year tour...

I like the team Fatprop, heard 2day that Nick White was MOM on sat nite against the Tahs, his forms been good can see another quality 1/2 back for Aus & I also would have Carter over Timani, consistent & on his way up

I think this is a very well thought out squad.

Only changes I would make are Hanson over charles and Kingston/Shipperly over Tomane. I'm also not sold on dennis but the only other viable option is Mowen, and there are certainly question marks about how he would go at international level.

I think Tapuai is a great player but with O'Connor and McCabe at 12 he will find it hard to crack the team. I don't think he is an international standard 13.

Is Cooper not being considered for selection due to not enough game time? He might be an option for the third test, depending of-course on how the first two go.

Hanson/Charles? it is a toss up, I like Charles' mobility
Kingston/Shipperly over Tomane? Tomane looks to have that something extra, Kingston/Shipperly are both a year or two away physically from Test football

I think hanson is just as mobile, but its a toss up as you say. I like charles mongrel.

Tomane is only in his first year back, he has jet shoes but he is yet to be really tested or targeted by opposition teams. Again it is a toss up.

Anyone advocating picking props because they are mobile and do "other stuff" really well and scrum a bit clearly watched no Wallaby Tests in recent years.
If the lesson that we absolutely need a good, solid scrum has not been learned yet, there is no hope.
Robinson is a key part of that.
Otherwise, what Fatprop said.

This is a funny topic as with the speed of the game these days you do need a higher degree of mobility and workrate but you rightly also need the traditional set piece strengths also. I think we do see props in the game that have the balance right. Benny R and the Franks Brothers spring to mind then younger fellas like Slipper who have the attributes but still developing. Other players are improving their workload whilst still good at set piece like Kepu and Palmer.

Sure, Ruggo, I understand they need to be able to contribute around the park. But scrumming has to be their primary skill, not something at which they're sort of adequate.
I think we are seeing some good options coming along.

unless you can show that they are worth more positive points per game to the team over the amount of points they cost us in penalties etc

It is a bit like picking Quade Cooper, he has major deficiencies in his defence, but gains us a lot in attack so we are better off with him. A Faainga saves more points in defence than he scores, so he is a positive too. Ionne cant kick, which I consider pretty vital to a wingers game but he is a positive due to his other skills.

Sure a great scrummaging Prop is nice, but if they are not a positive to the team then they may not be needed. Have a look who is behind them too, this has a lot of influence
