If that makes you feel better about your team's half of the crap display then good luck to you, louie.

It doesn't. I hope your hollow victory makes you feel better about yours. Brumbies were crap, as were the tahs.
If it was the other way round you'd be saying the samething.
It makes me feel crap about rugby. hey if you like the game being like this then you can have it.

Walsh had a bad night, but that was not a try - once tackled a player may not crawl/spring forward off the ground. In some ways it was a shame for AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) as when he ran the ball he did look dangerous.

The Tahs really missed the Palu/TPN go forward (and their punishing defence) - Mowen is certainly no replacement for either. Dennis made some good runs though, and he was a very effective defender.

Barnes still kicks too much, and both teams made a lot of poor kicks - but the desire to play in the other half is understandable given the fact that there was no predicting Walsh's next move.

The scrums were not well managed, and the penalty given against the Tahs in the scrum following the one the Brumbies collapsed in order to stop a pushover try really got up my nose....in some ways that was a mistake from Waugh, because if Walsh didn't give a penalty try the first time it was unlikely he would give one the second time (and very likely that the Brumbies would collapse again and 'roll the dice' for a potential penalty), tap and go would have been the best option.

Ball security at the breakdown was a problem for both teams, but you could also say that there were a few periods of very intense play which stretched the fitness of both teams and left pilferring opportunities.

Waugh had another decent game - really put himself about, which is amazing for someone so..um... chunky (says me in my skin tight 2XL Tahs jersey).

Turner really has some pace, and his try was a well worked one. One day he might get some good ball too.

Carter did enough, but Horne was a big loss - what is up with his 'bum niggle'? are we talking cheek or right in the date here Mr Hickey?

Beale played very well, even his defence was pretty strong, up untill late in the match...and he gets the Phil Waugh Award for impressive head cuts too. He runs well in traffic, is quite elusive, has a big kick, thinks fast. He ahs lost a bit of his pace, but is still quick enough.

Holmes really sucks, and Burgess wasn't tat much better when he came on - if there are no decent scrum halves on the Waratahs' books maybe they need to recruit a league hooker with a good pass (I've always thought this was a sadly unexplored option).

Overall, the game wasn't all that flash, but a win in a local derby over the Brumbies is not an easy run thing. 4 competition points is a good result for the Tahs (esp considering the injuries - not that the Brumbies are without those too).

Bring on the Kiwis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I never said it was good, and no I didn't enjoy the display at all (if you'd been on the blog you'd have ample evidence no-one did). And no, I don't usually go on like a goose after the game just because my team lost. Get over it.

I thought they were standing way too far apart.

That little rule stings teams every once in a while. I remember in a Bledisloe Test Luke McAlister was held on the deck a metre out and used two legs and an arm to sort of leapfrog the ball onto the line. I said no try immediately and the ref gave it. Gobsmacked. None of the Kiwis would even entertain the fact that it was holding the ball.

In any case, for the first time this year I will agree with Hickey and his disciple waratahjesus: sometimes you just gotta grind these things out. We're too close to the finals now to worry about pretty shit.

I don't think it was as bad as everyone is saying. Certainly the Refing was below par but was evenhanded I believe. The weather conditions made for a bad game to start with. then the pressure on both teams to move into the finals killed the rest.

True enough, NTA, but they play this crap at any time of the season, not just finals.
Waugh has been huge this year, and probably stakes a claim for a Wallaby squad spot, probably the 22. BUT, he really fucked up that scrum situation where the Brumbies got the penalty. The scrums were all over the place, penalties going one way or another, at that stage neither team had the clear upper hand (as opposed to earlier when the Brumbies clearly did). He should have rethought the situation and tapped or played a lineout / maul.
He inspires as a leader by being tenacious and gutsy, but his tactical nous is poor at times.

@Sully - as a wise man once said: "You stop infringing, and I'll stop blowing the whistle"

@cyclo - yes that is the second time Waugh has been stung going for yet another scrum. Sharks game was the same. The problem at the moment is scrums are a lottery, and probably a lineout would have given Baxter a break and made for a more likely outcome, even if it was a crooked throw and another scrum was reset.

One other thing I will say: AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)'s try does not guarantee a draw, win, or loss. There is no telling what would have happened in the conversion kick, the subsequent kickoff, and every ruck, tackle, maul, lineout, scrum, pass, kick, run, or penalty thereafter.

The ONLY time you can say an action has had an affect on the result, barring a last-minute penalty kick missed or hit, is converting a try. Conversions are the only method of scoring whose result can be ascribed to the final result being a win or loss, as their result has no effect on the subsequent play

Took a mate who never watched rugby to this one. He'll never watch another game and I'm a dumb-arse.

Thats rubbish. Its a refs job to manage games. If they pinged every infringement we'd see even less play than we did tonight!
