diehard fans, you support qld?

Diehard Berrick Barnes fan.

I have no judgement over what happened in the past. They have been wanting to rekindle that love again and I happened to be involved in a brilliant opportunity. As I said, anyone is welcome to join us and make a lot of noise.

We have 70 or so people going. Meeting point is Forrester Hotel in Surry Hills at 6:30pm, all welcome.

Hey Lauren,
One key to keeping this going and really getting the section singing will be to plant strategic "hardcore" fans at various points within the section.

I would suggest early indentification of the 6-8 punters most likely to cheer a lot and then make sure they are spaced evenly throughout the section, maybe 2 each row & 2 rows apart and pretty well directly behind each other. Then when punter in the front or first through rows starts singing, the next "hardcore" fan chimes in to support and then the people around them starting singing and then you've got the whole section going. This will probably be more important later in the season than this week as everyone should be keen for a good first up performance but I would try work out who's singing loudest this week and go from there.

Visual clues to help you identify the likely big singers would be facepaint and someone polishing off 4 beers in the first half. You will also need some half decent songs.

Get in quick, they banned them at the cricket.

They got banned from the cricket for two main reasons:

1) they were fetching beer for drunk people, bypassing RSA, and (I think this was the bigger killer)

2) they were strippers mainly, who for a small extra sum (and sometimes for free) were more than happy to flash.

I know of some people who hired the "beer wenches", and all had their beer wenches thrown out - for flashing (oh, and some with photographic evidence!). SCG trust then ran with the stories to the press that it was for "RSA reasons".

I'll say this once and once only.

This is not a free ticket offer to anyone, this is to DIEHARD, VOCAL WARATAHS FANS.

James, the guy who is organising this cannot stress enough about it.

Well...it sounds like a free ticket offer. You're offering free tickets, after all.

I wonder how it'd go if you canned the free tickets. Get it going without that impetus, and NOW you got something.

Seriously, on the day of the game, "forget" the free tickets. Whoever still wants to be a part of it is your core group. Build from there.

What i was referring to is that as per my first post, the offer is only to Waratahs fans, not blow ins who only want to come for a cheap night out.

The Waratahs want to make it a "hot ticket" as I said, and to
Add flavour to the games (come on we've heard the crickets singing louder)

The only reason why I posted this in the first place was to INFORM any fans wanting to come to the game and if need be take advantage of the opportunity. Not to hear a backlash of what's happened in previous years.

As I've said several times you are more than welcome to come & join us if u happen to purchase your own ticket (I have a $400 season pass on the 22m but am willing to give it up for a bit of singing and shenadigans)

my group is still going, we are the diehard fans, thats why were down the front, there giving away tickets behind us on a rotational basis, last week it was another group this week its that group, but they need to put the word out and get fans to email them and come join and grow the group.

the 70 coming are probably not made up of 70 that normally attend and thats the problem, if they attend and they keep coming thats fantastic, but its if there coming cos its free rather than for love that it no longer becomes a cheer squad but a large group of people.

that said, we shat all over the rebel army last week, they know it, they said it and it was never more apparant than when on half time when the b-boy dance off was meant to happen the five warah-tahmy fans stepped forward and even the asian dance dance revolution member of the rebel army bowed and conceded.

they might of rekindled the supporter group love but they certainly have a long way to go.

and while where on it, people of the scarf (gagr is dead to me) where is a reds supporter group? they talk such a big game but you get the feeling they dislike each other as much as they dislike good rugby.

Why do you feel the need to bring HodgoBerro's group down and pump yourself up as being the true diehard supporters? Who cares who is more 'diehard' - the more vocal fans the better, right?

Yeah I really don't understand the hate WJ. You're all Tahs fans, why can't you just sit together and have a good time?

I'll be in the members looking down my nose at the rabble drowing out the pleasant sound of crickets chirping while I sip my cheap red.

Just kidding. Enjoy - I used to sit in the front row on the 50m line in the old days being very vocal.

Everyone calm down, mommy loves you both, we all have faults, and you're both as relevant as eachother.

the more people the better.

It looks like a couple of key things here to me:

* The Tahs want some parochial vocal support which they are not currently getting. They must think that Tahs supporters (on the whole) sit back and wait to chastise the team rather than let rip from the run-on and opening whistle
* They're willing to give away tickets to people who promise to give this.

I imagine they want to get an outcome like 'The Cove' have at Sydney FC, where through rain and bad form, they have a rabid group of 100-400 fans sitting together and going nuts.

Is this the way to start it? I'm not sure, but they're giving it a crack and I know from supporting Australia in sports overseas (sports that I don't know too much about), that it's a helluva lot of fun to be in that environment.

Maybe a general admission area (rather than category four) could be the option next year; cheapest tickets in the house, but you end up in the hardcore area where fun and enjoyment is the priority, not necessarily appreciation or deprecation on the finer points or outcome of the game. If they are vocal and having fun, newcomers might gravitate there (regardless of the ticket they bought) just to be a part of it.

Might be right, might be wrong... happy to concede either way...

On this point, what should the group be called?

It was Tah Patrol, but that seems to have come and gone... a new name is probably needed.

I like Wara-Tahmy, but the Rebels have the 'Army' name sewn up. The Ba-Tah-llion?

There has to be something...

#1 Tah

Chilla Wilson (44)
The problem with the Tahs is that the Diehard fans sit in bay 13 and 12 and pay >$400 per year for seats where you can see everything - They aren't going to throw that money down the drain to sit in bay 22 under the scoreboard.

Saying that, I would love a good atmosphere at the SFS, cannot wait for tomorrow night!!!!

As a member of said Rebel Army I find this assertion humorous in the extreme. I can't remember you guys mustering a single chant all night, with the sole exception of when Tah Man came around to try and fire you guys up - The result being a somewhat embarassed chant which you made your way halfway through before giving up. Having also watched the replay on fox, I feel you should be mildly ashamed of the fact that at a Waratahs home game, the only chant that can be heard through the whole game is the 'Reebbeeells, Reebbeeells' chant.

The only real supporter among the group seemed to be the guy in the bowler hat (?scarfman?) whose passion seemed out of place amongst the number of you guys happy to sit and make the occasional golf clap.
