The Waratahs don't have to play the Reds until next year? If that isn't appropriate, then:

The Waratahs will surely have a good time on Monday.

One real positive for the 'Tahs this season has been the recent emergence of Paddy Ryan as a quite competent tight head scrummager. For years Paddy had a technical problem seemingly caused by very limited dorsiflexion of the ankle joint, i.e., he had trouble narrowing the angle between his foot and his shank. As a result he was not able to crouch effectively and was more or less hinging at the hips as the scrum formed. To overcome this he had developed a peculiar habit of jumping back with both feet on the engage and would then have to shuffle forward from an overextended position of the hip and knee joints.

He now seems to have corrected this and keeps both feet planted on the engage, which enables him to make effective use of his obvious lower body strength. Still only 23, weighing around 120kg, and being more than useful around the park, he could now begin to really make his mark.

As you would know Bruce, a tighthead prop moving his feet backwards as they engage is a massive issue (as it is for a loosehead). If the prop that is supposed to be leading you into the scrum (the tightehead) goes backwards with his feet, your scrum struggles to win the hit.

I haven't really watched his scrummaging but if that technical issue has been resolved it can only be good news for any team he plays in. Age and size are great but technique is king (as far as I'm concerned).

Keep it positive people.

Let's face it, after the worst season in superugby history, the Tahs are the only team with supporters that can come together and share positives in the face of adversity.

The mighty boys in true blue will be back next year, sans he burdon of expectation as underdogs fighting their way back and if anyone has ever cornered a waratah in nature knows, a tah with no place to go becomes a very dangerous flower.

WJ - keep it like this until February, maintain the underdog mentality and make sure that no one down there at HQ starts talking up 2013.

2013 is going to be a great year for rugby in new south wales. Tahs back to their best and our national club champions the Central Coast rays holding onto their title for another year,
