Waratahs 2023

Regular starter for London Irish and lineout leader. But not good enough for the Tahs?

Beggars can’t be choosers. He would have a lot to add still.
Perennial Post sitter and hardly a pillar of any side inc the Wallabies. Not a player that inspired me as an ex-lock (many years ago).

What is the chance that DC will play Holloway at permanent 6/8 in RWC year?
I guess it's a perennial problem where are the locks? AFL talent spotters anyone?

A few of those a bit disappointing. With Cridge, Williams, Bokenham and Douglas all going we actually no longer have a single specialist lock, only a group of (albeit quite good) lock/6 hybrid players in Holloway, Hanigan and Sinclair. You would have thought with that much talent leaving in one position, at least one of the young guys may have spotted an opportunity if they stuck around. I think Williams is the one with the most potential.
Other losses I think disappointing are Robertson, again with Grant going I thought an opportunity might have appeared, as he looks pretty good to me. I guess we will be looking for Wilson or Goddard to step up.
The last is Ramm. Injury ruined his season, and I guess he saw with the form of Mark N (Nawaqanitawase) and Peitsch it was going to be hard to get back in, but with no fullback next year it may have been an opportunity. The guy has all the natural attributes, a sound defender, serious speed and a huge boot. I hope he goes well.
Tizzano is a talent, but with Gamble and Hooper there really wasn't an opportunity for him, so hope he finds a chance elsewhere. Grant was at his ceiling, and I don't think the loss of Roberts, Smith, Funa or Reilly will cause much trouble.
I believe most people would see Goodard as an upgrade on Grant and Robertson.

Your vast knowledge and experience notwithstanding, but players don’t carve our careers as long as his in top flight pro rugby without being bloody good at it.

They used to be capped at a certain amount of salary no matter what they are actually paid. I don’t know if it is still the case. An import used to only contribute about $150k to the cap

I’ve never heard that. I know there was a time when Japanese internationals and Drua NRC players were not counted under the cap. I also believe the Force and Rebels were given relaxations.

We have had some fine locks over the years but compare him to Vickerman, Arnold and even Coleman (prior to injury) and there was a lot of daylight. in my not-so-humble opinion.

Well. Developing Max Douglas isn’t an option anymore….

Waratahs 2022 Departing players

Henry Robertson (TBC), Hugh Bokenham (TBC), Geoff Cridge (TBC), Max Douglas (TBC), Tevita Funa (TBC)
Is there any confirmation where these players are off to?

I can’t imagine someone offered Hugh Bokenham a pro contract, is it just the case they’re no longer on the books as they’re not required (good enough). Robertson and Douglas same deal.

Irrespective. He’s the closest thing we have to a TH lock. So unless there is a major recruitment in the wings, he has no chance of playing in the back row for the Tahs next year.
