Waratahs 2022

DP under contract.

And that backline doesnt look all that crash hot. Screams mid to low level Super Rugby AU - let alone a strong provincial team on a world standing.
We're not aiming for crash hot - we're going for slightly better than bog average.

In all seriousness that would be an improvement on our current back line for minimal spend (apart from DP).

This will be unpopular but I can't see both Donaldson and Harrison being strong/ dominant super rugby players.

None were absolute stars as juniors (I know there are late bloomers etc but its not a terrible predictor of long-term ability) and neither have looked a level above their competitors in the Shute Shield.

A Waratahs backline with both of them starting will never be a real threat to the top teams.

I really don't understand what people see in Donaldson and what they don't see in Harrison.

Harrison is IMO clearly the better player and is more likely to kick on.

I don't really take junior stars as a precursor for a professional career. Besides, they both played AusSchoolboys and started for the u20s team that finished 2nd in the JWC, so they do have some junior credentials. Their club rugby I can't comment much on as I only get the chance to see the odd game, but they don't have a lot of opportunities being in the Tahs squad and have done well from what I've seen.

I was speaking to someone yesterday about his rugby playing. He was very fast of course, but apparently didn't have a rugby brain.

Don't really need a rugby brain when you're that quick hey. When you can make LRZ, Reece & Koroibete look slow. But yes, not a real suggestion

Acknowledge not a real suggestion. But Trae Williams is essentially just as fast and is hardly setting 7’s alight. There is a need for speed. But not speed alone.

Did they both regularly start for the U20s. I seem to recall both Harrison and Lucas in the 10/15 spots and Noah had the 12 spot nailed down. I reckon Donaldson was more often off the bench.

Donaldson was generally on the bench.

Our top side was 10. Harrison 12. Lolesio 15. Lucas

Yes....That is correct.....

If you are able to watch that game on you tube Australia lost it.....France didn't win it.....a couple of big turning points and Australia made the wrong options.

It will be interesting how the new coach Coleman plays Harrison, Donaldson and Edmed.....

Certainly don't agree Sinclair being dead wood! When we were battling with 2nd rate kiwi locks who never should have been signed, Sinclair was turned from back-rower into lock and outperformed all of them. The guy's never going to be a Wallaby, but is a good, hardworking super level forward who will never let anyone down. I'm glad to see him re-signed, he makes a great bench cover from 4 to 8.

Angus Sinclair resigned. The Tahs seem intent on hanging onto their dead wood.
I might have thought that a year ago. But he showed in the last year to be exactly the kind of player you want in the squad. He was 100% effort and performed every time he got on the pitch. He’ll never be top shelf, but I am very happy he is sticking about.

Sinclair was solid this year and to call him dead wood is just wrong. He deserves to be resigned as showed upside this year and with decent coaching reckon still some improvement in him.

The challenge for the Waratahs is to push these guys out of the best 23.

There's nothing wrong with having Hugh Sinclair on a contract. He won't be expensive and he puts in.

The issue is if he's better than the other players we have signed.

Not a lot of news on that front.

I wouldn't expect there to be much news on new signings at this time of year either, really? This time of year more securing existing talent & new prospects.
