Waratahs 2022

Pass it to Dunning!

What ever happened to Cameron Skelton? I remember that Chieka had some plan to bring him back to the Warathas when he was HC? it all seemed to fizzle out, may be like Cameron Skelton?
He's playing club rugby in Auckland, I think. If he was going to pan out as a player, we'd know by now.

Looking forward to 2022 for the Waratahs... new coach ... players retained.... injured players mended... Hooper back... and then in 2023 a brand new home ground...’ Reset’ is not a bad advertising line...

Would be if they signed a fucking lock.

I don't see how retaining all of this year's players counts as a reset. The Tahs are going to have to get out their chequebook and sign some new players.

Talking up signing Hoops, Holloway and Hanigan. Basically they've been on sabbatical. In no way shape or form is that a reset. 2020 with them wasn't much better then 2021 without. It helps depth, it doesn't address the key recruit targets they continually talk about.

I can't think of a decent THP running around. Sam Talakai maybe, Eloff off contract. But they should probably look overseas and NPC for a big boi. Might be a tad harder with Moana recruiting now.

Arnold (x2) and Skelton not available so in terms of a big lock? Won't happen. They probably wouldn't go for Timani, and with Whetton, Caird, Holloway and the 2 youngsters on the books, no space available I imagine.

Big back? Kerevi, Kuridrani, Naivalu, Tomane & Naiyaravoro all under contract. Maddocks gone, missed out on a like for like replacement in Mogg. No-one decent off contract in other Super Rugby teams.....

Picking up a 7s winger or 2 but again that doesn't address the target.

Don't expect an improvement pre WC, but hopefully they can target some long term developing big boy options from out west instead of more 6ft4 105kg forwards and 6ft 90kg backs from the North/East

I think they were much better in 2020:
In 2020 they won 4, lost 4 and had a PD of +15
In 2021 they won 0, lost 8 and had a PD of -154

And Hooper, Hanigan & Holloway will all be an upgrade on what they had available this year.

Plus all the young guys have an extra years experience.

Agree though that ‘re-set’ is a stretch, but as a marketing strategy it still works better than ‘less shit then 2021’.

I really do hope they can find a big lock, and extra FR or two and a big outside back though - it would make a huge difference to their squad.

The question has been asked before, but has there been any approach to Chris Feauai-Sautia. He was playing as good as ever in 2020, is still young enough, has plenty of experience - IMO would fill one of the spots very nicely.

Yeah, but strange to say they’re wee no better in 2020. There were good signs that players were improving in SRTT. A year older and maybe some better luck on the injury front. Plus the injection of Holloway and Hooper into the pack I am feeling positive about seeing some improvements and is getting back in the mix for taking wins off the Force and Rebels. Not expecting we’ll be competitive yet with the Reds or Brumbies, but might go close if we are lucky.

Chris Feauua-Sautia would be great buy - as to me great player that had bad injury run to hamper his potential and played quality rugby for reds in last few seasons there.

Or Duncan P or Kerevi would equally be the sort of signings to aim for

Paia'aua and CFS would both be great, relatively affordable pick ups for the Tahs.

Could end up with this backline

9. Gordon
10. Donaldson
11. Ramm
12. Paia'aua
13. Perese
14. Feauai-Sautia
15. Harrison

DP under contract.

And that backline doesnt look all that crash hot. Screams mid to low level Super Rugby AU - let alone a strong provincial team on a world standing.
