Is it just me or the scrum showed some improvements against the Sharks? I still think that most of our forward pack is too small but they are definitely more energetic than last year.

I think it was a very modest improvement. The Sharks scrum is definitely significantly weaker than the Stormers.

I don't think size is our issue currently. Our scrum is largely down to the fact that in the current side our front rowers would be well down the list of Super Rugby scrummaging props. I don't think size is hurting us around the field much. Our defence has been pretty good and linespeed really good. Other sides forward packs certainly haven't run through us. Accuracy is the issue currently protecting our own ball in my view.

That is the true however good teams tend to adjust to pretty quickly to other team's structures as the tournament progresses so I wouldn't mind having a bit of size in the forwards to mix things up a bit.

I agree with you that accuracy/ball retention is an issue, this Tahs vs Rebels game in a couple of weeks should be quite interesting, hopefully by then we have this under control

I am pretty happy with the effort and hopefully we continue to improve.

Hey bloke. I'm not convinced that you have the Sharks scrum entirely correct. Weaker than the Stormers? Yes. Definitely, significantly? Don't know about that.

I also thought the Tahs scrum improvement was a step up. A few more games and a few more steps - the Tahs should keep improving. perhaps not to world beating scrummagers, but possibly closer to parity. I dont have the stats, but the scrum penalty list - is it not better than last week?

interesting choice to pick up a 29 yr old capped fijian who isn't exactly at the top of the fiji prop pecking order. Doesnt say much about our own propping stocks - though obviously many quality club and nrc players have jobs and can't afford to pick up short term contracts.

Falls outside of the salary cap which helps

I'm going on the basis of a scrum that got demolished on round 1 versus a scrum that was alright in round 1 (the Stormers).

The Tahs didn't get demolished but still gave away at least one tight head and I think two scrum penalties.

I thought it was a better performance but I wouldn't say by much. The Sharks had essentially a novice playing THP (Thomas du Toit) due to his change of sides compared with Steve Kitshoff the week before.

I guess we'll see more as the season progresses but I'm going to guess the Sharks won't be one of the best scrums in the comp and the Stormers will be.

How’d the Fijian prop look when he came on?

Looked ordinary unfortunately. First carry he trundled into contact with poor body height and got stripped within 2 seconds. ( By a sharks back if my memory is correctly...)

No noticeable impact in the scrums and don't recall any defence of note, mind I was watching it live and was a bit dozy towards the end.

Cannot see ANY reason to pick him in front of Vui ever again. Our scrum hopes rest on Kepu and Latu being fit and picked.

One highlight was Hanigan in the Super Rugby He was excellent around the park and in the line-out. Low-light was the woeful lack of impact from Staniforth, he seriously folds like a wet lettuce leaf whenever he goes into contact. He is starting to make Simmons look like a big hitter. I have a feeling we are heading towards a starting Super Rugby pairing of Palmer and Hanigan. What I'd give to sign up say a Matt Philip + either of the Arnolds. Tahs have too many hookers, no decent second rowers. Crazy! Brumbies have too many Super Rugby and no decent hookers.... There has to be a deal there somewhere.......

How long is Simmons out for.? What ever happened to Ryan McCauley? He played well in NRC and a big unit. Swinton can play good and Meafua can add some much needed spine

Hopefully all year..... the bloke's been ordinary and I'd rather see a young fella like Swinton get a game. He's got a huge ticker and will only get better. I remember watching him play for Syd Uni against Norths in the SS GF in 2016. He was only 18 or 19 and built like a rake but was throwing himself into everything against much older and bigger men. I was thinking look at this bloke go! He's got that bit of fearlessness that stands out. Jury is still out on McCauley. Haven't seen anything to date to make me think he's the answer.

Yeah, Swinton is the real deal and has filled our. He's over there, hope he gets a run this week.

Yep how good was Perry Baker in Vegas - the length of the field try from his own tryline was sublime whilst the running down the flying Fijian winger was also pretty special.
