By the way, Horwitz got a Waratah contract in 2014, and made his Super Rugby debut last year, so I don't know where the five years comes from. That's three years with a contract, and one season with 13 caps, mostly off the bench, of super rugby.

3 NRC seasons where every performance falls somewhere between crap and didn't have an influence on the result probably has something to do with people's ratings.

Still, he's adequate backup at this stage, and hopefully he becomes something more for you.

That is particularly harsh. Even last year he was a tournament stand out in the first few rounds.

A little rough seeing he also missed the majority of the first season injured

Oh dear. That's two seasons down the drain. I wasn't that impressed when they signed him last year but I thought he looked great in preseason and was excited to see him play this year.

Yeah, I think I must be watching a different NRC to H35 because Horwitz has been a strong performer at that level.

Yeah,

As I have said before, I see him as a solid squad player and anyone who thinks you don't need those is well .................... uninformed

Future test player? Unlikely

A solid pro rugby career, highly likely

Looking around the various rosters most teams have a core of guys who will provide that level of performance a coach can rely on, not score 8 million tries each match, but be called on to put in a consistent session and not cost the earth to keep on the books.

I like to watch

Yeah, as mentioned previously, this is his fourth year, but he has now had 5 pre seasons with the Tahs.
So yeah, he's relatively young, but he's been training at super level for such a long period of time, it's unlikely he's about to have a breakout year like many are tipping with Simone.

Its been reported on rugby.com.au that Brad Wilkin has done an ACL and is out for the year.

One young Waratah has been dealt a painful blow on the eve of his Super Rugby debut - Brad Wilkin has suffered his second ACL injury.
Wilkin missed the entire 2016 season after a knee reconstruction and managed to injure his good knee in Thursday’s training.
He will be replaced in the side by Senio Toleafoa against the Force.

Almost off the main page - this can't be. Carn the Tahs.

With McDuling and Tolefoa on the bench we're super short of back rowers. Where do we go from here?

Hanigan and Holloway both due back for round 4.

Maclean Jones is with the squad in South Africa and Jameson Schultz is part of the wider squad.

Bit of an injury crisis there right now but only Wilkin is long term.

With no disrespect to Maclean Jones & Jameson Schultz, it is a curious decision to bring 2 Queensland schoolboy forwards or Oz Under 20 players straight into the Waratahs. Can't imagine that would happen in New Zealand or South Africa. They may be a good prospects however Jones made plenty of mistakes suggesting a lack of experience at senior level. Can anyone enlighten me about the background?
I reckon the pathways have to include some significant senior rugby before playing at Super level.

There would have been no intention that those guys got Super Rugby game time in 2017. They aren't even part of the main squad.

So the Tahs recruit guys without any intention of playing them . Then when injuries occur and they have to play someone, they get a game.
Does that mean that they are playing guys who they think aren't ready for Super Rugby? Understand that might be part of a longer term plan however don't think that is good for the players or the Tahs.

For the current season every squad has players they don't intend to play. They are on development contracts outside of the main squad.

They're now dealing with multiple back row injuries and were forced to include Jones in the matchday 23.

If Skelton hadn't dropped out he wouldn't have been in the 23. If the game had been in the balance he probably wouldn't have got on the field.

If any of Holloway, Hanigan or Wilkin were healthy he wouldn't have been on the South African tour.

Foley is flying home today to see a specialist in Sydney after his concussion symptoms have persisted.

Bad news for both Foley and the Tahs. Makes the assignment against the Sharks that much harder.
