Though I rate the managerial capabilities of both the NSWRU and QRU at 'deeply degraded' levels, I was utterly gobsmacked when Gibson announced that, due to cost cuts at the Tahs/NSWRU he had to 'cut back' on Assistant Coaching positions at the Tahs and so in effect he would not be replacing Grey.

We all appreciate the absolute criticality of coaching to competitive success and skills development in rugby - both generalist and specialist in nature.

Surely the Tahs/NSWRU's decision to cut costs in this reckless, foolhardy manner is the ultimate definition of 'penny wise, pound foolish'.

Or just completely fucking insane, in street language.

I question if he should be getting a Wallabies top-up if he has low odds of playing test rugby.

But fair enough, Lindommer, the Tahs would then be the bet in that case.

Money is tight but they can give him some of the Nathan Grey surplus.

I'd reckon a season in Japan and head to Europe.

The guy is 28 so could potentially get another 5-7 years of decent cash.

Can return Australia when done with rugby.

I believe he still has an ARU contract he'd have to break to do that.

Maybe they'd let him though, it's in nobody's interest to force a bloke to play somewhere he doesn't want to.

They have, at times, been far better in the second half after dire starts

But yeah fitness and attitude must be improved

I think the fitness has been an issue, but not as much by far as any consistency of application, accuracy and attitude. As you say they have finished some games very well after being almost disinterested in the first half. Of course, adding some power would be good. Kiwi teams not only have an enduring work-rate in most matches, but do it with power rather than just looking busy! So plenty to work on.

Apparently, for the same reason, they are only going to take 22 players into a match and a decision is to be made on game day whether they start with 14 and load up the back end.
Training will be conducted with 2 footballs - one for backs and one for forwards.
Mumm is being asked hand back his socks and shorts and returning players are to use this years next season, if possible.
Also - there will no new tickets issued for next season: anyone who had tickets this year is being asked to hang onto them - seating is not expected to be an issue should anyone new try to sign up for 2018 seats.

I thought these contracts were tri-partite as we say in the trade and so had only one term - i.e. club bit finishes on same day ARU top up does.

In the end it is a game of rugby, not brain surgery,not building a rocket ship. Get the pricks really fit, pointing in the same direction, working hard for eachother and the tahs will be a better outfit.

And he might still want to try for RWC 2019. While the chances aren't zero, they're probably less than evens.

Interestingly, of the Giteau clause players, I make it only one (maybe two) staying out. And a few close to retiring.

I don't agree in any way it's 'just as simple as that' to get an elite pro football team winning comps in 2017+.

But delighted to hear Tahs fans like you think that's all it takes.

Just be clear: Gibson himself stated (in what I read) that the Asst Coach cull was down to cost cutting, he didn't seek to put a positive PR spin on it such as yours above.
