If he means he's carrying a few extra kilo's all I can say is "poor bastard". Look what the trainers did to Skeletor.

Skelton Svelton. Looks a few lamb chops and a pizza or seven short compared to last season.

It doesn't take much for us Dutchmen to get out of shape. Beer and meat tend to hone in on the gut and stay there. He lost it pretty quickly last season though.

Unless of course the baggage contains a Japanese pornstar?

As I indicated above: he's not a bruiser, and doesn't have a big engine. What level he had in those areas has faded and he is over 30 now. Some props get better with age; some don't.

I'm thinking that as time went by the coaches mentioned above thought the technical expertise he once had in the scrum, or still has, did not make up for those other deficiencies anymore.

When McKenzie took over the Wallabies after the Lions series he dropped him from the starting team and he hasn't started since.

It's not that he's crap because he's still coming off the Wallaby bench: its just at the margin. A younger Fat Cat may have kept his starting spot.
.
The new laws don't seemed to have helped him either, they marked the start of his most recent decline and he looks to be no better then third in terms of scrummaging now, behind Slipper and Sio. I'm not sure if this is because he's not as well suited to them or if he's fallen behind not having a dedicated scrum coach to work with.

Or not.

Anyway, the reason Fat Cat didn't go to RWC2007 was Knuckles' obsession with a massive pack. And so he picked the biggest guys who weren't nearly as good at the technical work, and we got knocked out by England. End of.

It really isn't. Super Rugby teams need dependable Super Rugby subs who know the systems and plays and just do a job. They can't all be potential Wallaby starters. A guy like Tilse is value - probably does not cost them a lot, and can be relied upon.

And if you want to talk about good trainers as we have in this thread recently he's a 100% man and Paddy Ryan is right up there too.

Tilse probably has a step or two on Paddy and fancies himself chasing down the hair-combing, mintie-eating backs.

He doesn't catch a lot of them but don't tell him that because he keeps trying to at training.

Tilse has never let us done in a S15 match. He may not be a test player or a S15 starter, but he is a solid bench unit

I agree with that but on the flip side the Tahs have probably missed some better, younger players from Sydney holding onto him. Scott Sio and Tetera Faulkner for example.

How long do you get those players for though if you sign them at the expense of Tilse? Maybe a year when they're really hitting their straps and then like anyone else with significant aspirations, they will go elsewhere for opportunity.

You miss out on those players because you have Robinson and Kepu, not because you have Tilse in my opinion.

The thing is the two you mentioned would have moved anyway (and Faulkner did) for an opportunity to start.

With Robbo & Kepu (and now Ryan) any LHP was going to play a small part without injuries. That part has increased with the extra prop role so Tilse is getting more time now.

But finding that Robbo replacement must be a key issue for the Tahs going forward for 2016/17

We managed to keep Kepu even though he played off the bench for years behind Baxter. The whole recruitment game is risk vs reward though and you have to play it safe times. Tilse is a safe player.

That was because he was getting good minutes playing both side

Its is a worry that a bloke who is as poor a scrummager as he is can take up s15 space for so long in this country without anyone challenging him - but as Cheika made clear last year scrum are a secondary consideration in S15.

Folau wants to play outside centre. I've been anticipating the Waratahs will try to mix things.

How do you know it?

I'm sure he will go great @ 13.
I'm not so sure that a move like this will improve the team.

It might be good for Tahs but bad for Wallabies. The position has depth, we have two world class outside centers as Kuridrani and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper). Folau must play as fullback and improve their kicking game
