After the rugby club and Phil Kearns declaration that he is not and never has been on the selection committee for the new Tahs coach are those who questioned his morals, ethics and loyalties happy to apologize here or should we be starting a separate thread for it?

I think Kearns is big enough and ugly enough to fight his own battles WJ, if you have a problem with a post report it

Has anyone else got any info on this rumour I have heard: the Tahs pay for space in the SMH and Growden provides the copy for that space.
I was also told that all of the codes do the same.

What I should have said was that he is in conflict by sitting on "a sort of committee advising or acting as a sounding board to the coaching staff" then commenting on the performances of said coaching staff, and their suitability to continue in their role, without disclosure.

Just so WJ can read it again.

It's a shame that there is limited personalities in rugby in this country. Hard questions need to be asked and the small pool from which it appears people can be selected for these roles makes this less likely. Kearns has the choice of giving hard views on the Rugby Club and losing his role on various committees or watering down his views and cheapening his commentary. Of course he will choose the latter, upsetting neither employer and maintaining both roles to the detriment of each. Everyone is mates and no one is willing to upset the order for fear of losing favour with what appears an exclusive old boys network of players and admin staff.

Since the last time Grumbles wrote something positive about the Tahs was before the Internet existed, this seems unlikely.

I love IS seeking to clarify gossip about Rugby's Roz Reines, Grumbles Growden.

The irony is not lost on me.

If true, then I concur with ILTW's conclusion.

Just so you can understand the point. Being that I was responding to opinion like yours that played the man. Kearns was never payed by the waratahs. As he said last night he was used as a sounding board for the coach. That coach was Michael foley. Kearns and Kafe had no say in day to day operation, Nor do they have influence to change mangaementetc. They were asked by the Tahs to attend a couple of meetings and give an opinion as ex players and commentators who watch a lot of rugby.

He disclosed this involvement earlier in the year. The involvement of two meetings that were well before the Tahs conducted season review that endorsed foley to stay on.

The fact that you believe that the opinion he gives is watered down and bankrupt so he can keep two jobs is both factually incorrect and gossip. His role isn't to ask tough questions but provide color commentary to the broadest audience so fox can maintain ratings. If he wasn't recognizable as an ex player, just like Horon & Marto, fox wouldn't employ him in the first place.

The newly appointed club captain, Pat McCutcheon, was on ABC Grandstand's Front Row Rugby yesterday.

Access via this link: http://blogs.abc.net.au/grandstand/2012/08/front-row-rugby-.html

The interview starts at 15 minutes.

Talks about what the role involves. He acknowledges that there were "culture/will to win" issues within the team this year and the team had an "honesty session". It's good to hear that the players recognise there were problems this year and are taking steps to address them. I get the impression the session may have been done after Foley left. If so, maybe the Tahs are heading in the right direction.

It was a good interview and Pat answered the questions rather than spin or deflect them.

Each year the Tahs seem to have a slogan. In 2012, it was "Stronger Together". Maybe next year it should be "Redemption".

Think my old primary school motto of 'deeds not words' would do nicely as they talk themselves up all the time and rarely deliver.

Grumbles gold;

It's amazing what bobs up in the Waratahs lost-and-found box. A few days ago, a Waratahs member having a coffee at the Allianz Stadium members' cafe, next door to the Tahs' head offices and a popular haunt of NSW Rugby types, picked up an important-looking note near his table. The note was a ''wish-list'' of what appeared to be Waratahs head coaching candidates. The names on the paper were B(rian) Smith, W(ayne) Smith, M(ichael) Cheika, A(lan) Gaffney, G(raham) Henry, E(wen) McKenzie. Next to the second, third, fourth and sixth names was the word ''confirmed''. It's a fascinating list. But some might not be be delighted to find they're on it. After all, it would take a lot of change before McKenzie, who is revelling being at the Queensland Reds, would even think of going back to that vipers' nest. Nonetheless, our well-informed snouts are saying Cheika is ''gaining momentum'' for the job, being helped by numerous influential rugby figures backing him. This is despite one Waratahs figure being seriously concerned about his future if Cheika moves in. We've also been told another candidate will be offered a Sydney club head coach position if he misses out at Moore Park.

WJ 2 things struck me about this (assuming the inference that it came from someone in Tahland is correct)
1. The fact of Brian Smith being on the list is a fantastic indictment of how far the Tahs have slipped: this man makes Ricky Stuart look like a guru. He has never won a premiership. Yes, he gets them to the semis - although even that record for building teams but not consummating the process is in tatters with the Roosters' performances. The point is that the last 2 coaches got them to the semis so appointing him, based on his record, is like Back to the Future - maybe the tahs are the Delorean Motor Company of rugby?
2. Who would want to coach a sydney club side? No money, salary cap rorting, no control etc .etc. The threat of getting that job would be enough to put some people off applying.
Who is Smith, M?
Was it in the handwriting of anyone from the Rugby Club?

Well if its that one that would be replacing one political animal with an even more political.coach.
That Brian Smith was that attack coach for England between 2008 and 2011 - the Tahs have been down that path.

England at times played some wonderful attacking rugby under him as well

He also did some very good work with London Irish, they played some nice rugby.

But I would still prefer Cheika
