I don't think that Zipper is an outside back these days speckie. Even in his last year at school he was getting smoked sometimes. He is playing 12 for Eastern Suburbs at the minute and pretty well too. That is probably his position now, however he could get a spot as a utility because he has played on the wing and 13 in Super rugby before.
There are a few promising young outside backs in Sydney but if was picking one to be ready to go if there are a couple of injuries, I would pick Ben Batger or Sean Foley.
People may turn up their noses up at fullback Batger because he has had chances at the Tahs and the Brumbies before, but he has been in top form for Eastwood who have lost only one game this year, and he was in the same form last year too. The Tahs took him to the RSA in 2011 even though he was not contracted, and he got on the park. His goal kicking hasn't been the worst this year either when the main kicker has been off the field.
Sean Foley (no relation to Bernard Foley) who has played on the big stage for Oz 7s and plays wing or fullback for Randwick, looks in pretty good form too. He is a mature player and will be ready to go fairly quickly, like Batger.
As for youngsters: Jake Woodhouse has been in the pro academy for a couple of years and looks handy when I've seen him for Manly, mostly in highlights, and his team mate BJ Hartman looks very good and is versatilte.
I see that 10. Ben Seymour (playing 15 recently for Manly with Ripia back) who is in the Tahs pro academy, is not wanted by the Tahs for 2012. The 21 y.o. would be a good pick up though he may have to wait a year or two.
