We haven't got a lock in the EPS - one LHP, 2 backrowers, 1 half, 1 winger/fullback. So who might we bring in to replace Vickerman? Who's around that might make the grade at Super level? Have the Rebels signed the Manly lock/ex rower? In this discussion I would ask that there be no mention of Hoiles - we need a hard-as-nails tight forward who is bona-fide healthy and not injury prone.

PS. Given our injury record I do not agree with Lee that over the season we have enough locks with Mumm, Timani, Petersen and Douglas. I know Dennis can play lock at a pinch but we have Palu and Rocky in the back row that have to be covered.

I don't think we need another lock, another backrower would fit more as Dennis can play lock. That's 5 which you'd think is more than enough but would never know with the Tahs.

The Tahs didn't have a lock in the EPS because they had one too many in the 30 - based on squad norms. I guess that was because Vickerman became available at late notice. The Rebels probably have one too many also.

It's not easy to have a perfect balance in a squad. Franchises work hard to stagger the times when contracts expire, so everybody doesn't leave at once. Sometimes they give out 1 year contracts to players, or they tack on an extra year, to get contract renewals for a certain position out of alignment, but it is hardly ever perfect.

It is a shame about Vics, but we will survive and as others have said, we had too many locks.

Hoiles as replacement? dunno really, he wasn't fit enough for the Brumbies a few weeks ago and he plays too loose for me.

A winger is needed for the squad to replace Turner, one of the Reds discards in Europe might be an option if they are free but one would assume Trist would get moved up and a good youngling from the Academy group would take the Extended spot

You'd think that Richard Stanford would probably be the lock they'd look to next (as a short term replacement), if another goes down injured.

I was surprised he didn't get picked up by any Super Rugby teams... I rate him as a good toiler.

As Hawkeye mentioned: it looks like McCutcheon has a lead in the 7s race against Alcock. ...It does not surprise me that he is vice-captain: as I have said a few times: he is a natural skipper.

I couldn't think of anything worse for the Tahs. Finally we purge Phil Waugh, a chronic weak link. The bloke who went around tackling his own teammates to create more rucks (slow ball = good ball ) and a zealot for conservative predictable options. And now we get lumped with another Sydney Uni cyborg. The Sydney Uni negative spoiling no risk style of play has NEVER worked at this level and NEVER will. We will never succeeed until we purge the parasitic Uni influence.

While I would love to see chabal I doubt the ARU would allow it, although if it was on the cards they should.

Realistic replacement could be Stephen Hoiles, apparently he is training with the tahs after being released by the ponies so who knows?

Blair Connor might be who you are thinking of. His career has blossomed since leaving the reds and he is now a regular starter for bordeux. He looks quick and a bit bigger from what I have seen on the tv. He can also play 13 which is where he use to play club footy for norths.

Blair should definitely come back to Super rugby. Great little player. Dominici anyone?
