I reckon there is some method to this madness and by the time we play England both Horwill and Hanson will be in the squad. Don't ask me to explain that, it's just a hunch that I have.

We have 3 relatively easy (not under-estimating Fiji) games to get through before then, there will be some injuries.

How long does it take for a player to become "front row" certified. Perhaps they should Pocock through a course.
It's not about scrumming.

We need blokes that can throw the lineout feed with the same skill and accuracy as Phil "The Power" Taylor does with Darts.

TPN is dodgy with that skill at the best of times.

No. The replaced squad member must be replaced on medical grounds. You would need to replace another also injured player to do so.

IS there an independent assessor of the injury. Our worst performing outside back may go down with chronic shin splints....... and in comes Hanson!

Side note - I remember Pocock throwing in a Test (vs Wales maybe?) back in 2011/2012.

Assuming TPN or Moore has a 1 match injury, they would just name Smith as the hooker and hope to God they don't need him.

Yeah, a Moore gets a cork, Nau gets a head knock; and a McMahon or a winger or another goes home

My understanding of the rules is that only inured players can be subbed out and it's strictly monitored by World Rugby.

So swapping a winger for Hanson mightn't be possible.

This was the first thing that occurred to me - I will not be surprised to see one or both there at some point.
Not that I agree with having no 3rd hooker to begin with, though. And I am just as mystified by Horwill's omission as others are.

Remember when wingers used to throw into lineouts? They did in NZ anyway, I recall doing it as a kid.

I agree the Horwill omission is poor but not a make or break selection. But the replacement is a step down.

The hooker issue is a massive fuck up. Takes a huge risk on potential forfeit, or losing a player for the remainder of the tournament over a minor injury.

Maybe not, but....

- many here and in NZ noted how the change of locks in the recent BC2 match was vital to an improved AB broken play/breakdown performance, and that that performance altered the whole balance of the teams in favour of NZ

- fp has often rightly highlighted how crucial lock excellence - or the opposite - can be in the tight battles, in the crucial clean-outs and so on

- Are Mumm and Douglas the equal of Horwill in line-out work?....such a critical component in RWCs

- They are certainly not his equal in terms of aggregated high-pressure Test and RWC experience. Such depth of experience in advising the coaches and team mates can be absolutely invaluable as much in training, tactical planning, in the sheds etc., as on the field.

We will know soon enough.

Re - not having the third hooker

From the Tournament Rules

So can they fine us now? or start docking us points?
I'll back TCG's knowledge skills and experience in selecting the squad.

His job and reputation are on the line, not mine, although if he can maintain a W:L ration >28% he should be OK with his job, but not his reputation.

There were plenty of naysayers when he plucked Naiyaravoro out of reserve grade Tigers mungoball. That seemed to turn out OK.

The proof of the pudding will be in the eating. Now get out there and Bring Back Bill.

The naysayers are still right - the Queen Mary turned quicker.
I seriously think that Cheika thinks you can adjust and adapt during the tournament in a major way. if that's not what he thinks then he has just put it all on black.

The injuries have to be considered longer than 2 weeks also.

Do inury subs need to be of players in the same position, are you allowed to sub a winger for a hooker?

In my opinion "cleanouts" is exactly why Douglas is considered. He is not a great set piece lock, no. But he enabled the Tahs to keep possession and get quick recycle in 2014, something they didn't manage without him. Chieka has quoted that the Tahs in 2015 would not have someone who can do Douglas did at the required workrate. That's why Chieka wants him, somehow he helps the Chieka gameplan.

From memory, I could be wrong, Mumm was Tahs lineout caller even when Mowen was there, and certainly ahead of Dennis. Simmons, Mumm, and Fardy will be the Lineout callers.

so we've all failed to realise that this is actually based on Cheika knowing who will be injured and when?
Fair enough.
I dips me lid to the man.
