Speaking of clowns,

(and maybe I should have waded back through the thread to find out if this was mentioned already)

When does our fearless coaching coordinator announce the wallaby side for Saturday?

I expect a pretty delayed announcement, maybe even on Friday as he finds out who pulls up the best.

I think others have answered well enough, Jiggly.
Read more slowly next time, and the point might be clearer.
And no, I'm not a clown, but thanks for the suggestion anyway. I don't have the shoes for it.

No, your somewhat sarcastic post is suggesting that anything but a Tah front row would have series repercussion with regards to the Wallabies and their ability to win matches. This is just a ridiculous assertion. If that is not what you're suggesting, please enlighten me.

Well, the one thing the Tahs have going for them is an excellent scrum as they contain the undisputed best loosehead prop in the country in Benn Robinson who is world class, and arguably the best tighthead prop in Kepu (although some may argue Palmer)...

So, not selecting them might indeed have serious repercussions with regards to the Wallabies and their ability to win matches...

I hate the Tahs.. Boy boy do I love there front row. Im guessing Kepu and Robinson will start the Wales Tests and Id be happy for them to do so However Moore is in better form over TPN so id be giving him first preference depending on how he pulls up. Palmer would be pretty good too. Would be shocked to see anyone else start out of those 3.

I'd be happy for Palmer to get another start and bring Kepu off the bench...

Moore will need to start again but hopefully TPN can come on with 20 minutes to go...

There'll need to be some changes in the second row, and I have concerns about Sharpe packing down on that tighthead side...

For all the Awesomeness of the Tah front row and scrum they are sitting 11th on the table at 4-10. There issue is not getting enough bodies behind the ball at the contact zone working together and having a good scrum is irrelevant to the fact that they are woeful. Last night our did the best tight grunt work I have seen a from a wallaby team a couple of years, but it was different factors outside of the pack that cost us last night. I just don't understand the logic being spewed forth which I can summarise as the following:

- Australia has a weak scrum (I believe this is a myth but we take as given) so we must pick what we think is the best front row which is a Tah one.

- Australia have been loosing games over the last 4 years being outmuscled and out enthused at the break down.

- best front row from the tahs has been either lazy or unfit and has been outmuscled at the break down all year, and for most of last year.

- so we don't want to pick props and a hooker who have been making a fair greater impact around the park and scrummaging well. We go for props and a hooker who have been making little to no impact around the park as either subs or starters, and been scrummaging slightly better.

Thats batty logic.

I was actually very impressed by Palmer. I have been a critic of him and I'll admit I did believe he was being seriously overrated by many. But he looked nowhere out of place in an Wallabies jersey.

Preferbly I'd have him starting against the Welsh. But no doubt Kepu will tart. Which isn't a bad thing, Kepu has been good, but hopefully for the second test we see Palmer start again.

Then you have Slipper and Alexander both capable of being starters. HOLY SHIT SINCE WHEN DID AUSTRALIA DEVELOP FRONT ROW DEPTH!

Palmer was a rock, and he did some very good work in tight. He is a better option than Kepu. Slipper can play both sides better than Kepu, so he is the bench prop for mine.

Alexander isn't a start, in my opinion. but we do have depth and the wheels wont fall off if we pick some better props around the park, and who do more tight work. Slipper, Holmes, Palmer are not Shepherdson, Dunning and Baxter.

Robinson's workrate around the field has never really been an issue, coupled with excellent scrummaging there is no better loosehead in Australia... No one comes close.

As for Kepu, his scrummaing has been excellent the past couple of years and he would have a higher workrate than Palmer...

You can't put all the Tahs troubles on these 2 guys when there's 15 players on the park and 6 other forwards...

But if we're not going to select players based on their workrate and effectiveness around the breakdown then we'd better cull Sharpe and Higginbotham from this team, as well as a few others.

Also, I wouldn't rate that as the best grunt work from the Wallabies.

That was far from impressive.

And you continue to ridicule Alexander while praising Slipper, which I find odd as they're pretty equal in their abilities. Both good around the field. Not the best scrummagers who can play both sides, but adequate.

Slipper did give away the final penalty.

I dont think Robinsons work rate is as good as Alexander's or Holmes. it hasn't been this year thats for sure. His execution at the break down is just not up to scratch. Its his body position and timing as he comes into the the rucks or when he makes a run. Additionally I dont think he is fit. but neither are the Tahs in general.

Kepu was getting done last year in the tests and I dont think his scrummaging has improved at THP this year. His work rate is also down. Clearly he was played out of position at LHP last year so you can excuse that. But if you want a pot plant at THP and a strong strum above all else as some clearly want, Palmer is the choice, not Kepu.

Higginbotham has been putting in better workrate and is more effective at the breakdown than most this year, and last night he put in just as much as any other. I agree Sharpe should go, you have to question if his heart is in it this year with retirement on the Horizon.

You are correct though, you can't blame just those 2 for the Tahs lack of effectiveness at the contact zone this year. You have to blame the entire pack. Yet the Fan boys ignore this and still swear that most of them are the best candidates for a Wallaby jumper.

This should be a great game. Although a little birdy told me it may be wet again in Brisbane. Let's hope it's not, because we have had cracking weather the last 2 days!

Good game to start Quade. But maybe we will see Barnes again. I'm guessing we will. Bummer.

Quade's no longer with the squad...

Have to say boys and girls that I have a very sick feeling in the pit of my stomach about this game. Backing up after the debacle in Newcastle with little rest, shitloads of quality players out injured, not a lot of prep for those player coming in, no combinations and a very good Welsh team. I can't help thinking we'll get clobbered.

Why the doom and gloom Fellow Gaggerlanders?

Les Frogs invented "C'est La Vie".

They (pop about 50 million) got humiliated by the Tongans (pop about 50 thousand) at RWC 11 in pool play.

They regrouped, C'est their Vies and made it all the way to the Final and bloody nearly took Guillame Web Ellis back to Frog Land.

For all those in the Resign Deans camp, remember that the Frogge at RWC 11 were apparently Coachless if you believe what was in the press at the time. Maybe it is about player power, and time that our players stood up and were counted.

These Welsh may look good on paper, but we can do 'em. Just gotta believe in ourselves and play smart. Something we didn't do last night. Rugby is a simple game: run forwards and pass backwards. When you have mastered that stuff then try the fancy s**t.

The Tahs front row scrum well. So do some others, but as a unit, less well. You discounted them out of hand, with the grudging exception of Robinson, in favour of "workers". That was the point, it didn't seem so obtuse. If we have seen nothing else of latter years, the need for a solid scrum is paramount. In any event, I never said Palmer et al were poor, I was arguing that the Tahs were not.
As I have stated elsewhere, I would pick Robinson / Moore / Kepu or Palmer depending on what bench they want. Slipper on bench. Not Holmes. Not Alexander, unless he plays LHP only.
Your dismissal of them as woeful is as batty as anything against which you rail. I see you again quote the Tahs win / loss record as a reason their front rowers must be shit. That aspect of the team has been going very well, most others haven't. By your astounding logic, Pocock should be gone (Force are crap), and no Reds players (pre-2009/10) or Brumbies players (last year) should have been picked.
Your bitching about them because of the team they come from, not because of their objective ability.
Enlightened enough, Jiggly?

Where is Cardiff Blue and the Optimism Gnome?

His input to these boards on things Welsh during RWC was refreshing.

Apparently hard at it trying to stuff the gnome back in the closet, he has gone feral after last night's display.
