I was hoping Gareth Delve was going to get a crack.

6. Jones, 7. Warburton, and 8. Delve is a perfect back row.

You've got a classic hard working number 7, a workhorse number 6, and a big ball runner at 8 that is quality for denting the defensive line. You also have 2 excellent line-out jumpers in the back row which is unheard of even at test level.

Ryan for lydiate? I don't think so. Tips had to be on bench. Much more flexible. Glad to see Gogzilla north recovered. Also saw that the great Gats has appeared to oversee the coaching

Why won't they have a plan to stop it?

Good question groucho. To which I've no answer.

The Deans WBs never have not often been able to counter this tactic. I'm assuming that, as he rarely seems to have a discernable game plan, intricacies like countering an oposition tactic are just too complex for his standard of couching competence.

As with the Poms in 2010, be prepared for a wiser opposition this Saturday.

I'd like to think that Wales could not possibly be as naive as they were up to half time on Saturday and from what I saw wednesday, they are planning to slow the ball that genia receives

I'm not quite sure why Wales dropped hooker Owens out of the 22 as I haven't seen a mention of his being injured. I thought Rees would have been the starting hooker last Saturday but, regardless, Owens ran on and threw about 10 throws to the lineout and they were all spot on. He seemed to play OK otherwise too.

It's rough that 8. Faletau had to go home but Oz won't be crying too many crocodile tears for Wales with their stars Beale, JOC (James O'Connor) and Quade injured, and besides, Ryan Jones looked back to his old self when he replaced Faletau at Suncorp.

Beck for Scott Williams is a good move though he had a strange game off the bench at Suncorp: one brilliant pass off the deck was responsible for the Cuthbert try, but his too high pass to the same player near the end of the game in his own 22 ruined the possibility of another.

Starting AWJ is also very good; he's a 24 carat hard bastard; looks it too.

Wales will be better for the gallop in Melbourne; just as the Wobs do sometimes second game in after a long break. Genia and Barnes will be targeted but if Welshmen are going to stand around the ruck to get them, the Wobs may pick and drive where they ain't.

They will also have plays that target Vuna, and going through video clips of his defensive inadequacies. There was likely too much to look at before the first test.

One of the Wallabies biggest drawbacks last week was slow realignment on defence and presenting spaces which were too wide. A couple of times the wide gaps were caused by defenders helping out in tackles without cause. The Wallabies had only 7 lineouts last week; so Wales didn't kick it out a lot. They'll probably kick it out less this week, drive it up one side of the park to attract defenders, then switch it to the other side to find those gaps.

This was their old ploy of a couple of years ago.

I don't know why Deans has named the same side. It means that forwards Pocock, Higginbotham and Sharpe - and backs in high traffic areas, Genia and Barnes - will be starting their 3rd test in 11 days.

Sharpe could have been easily replaced by Douglas, but he was cut from the squad, as was Pyle. These fellows are TH locks and the Wallabies had Sharpe scrumming on the TH side with Simmons on the left. IIRR Simmons stayed there when Dennis replaced Sharpe. Admittedly the scrums were OK when Sharpe was on the park but Simmons should have switched when Dennis came on.

Wales had the only dominant scrum of the game - driving through the Oz TH side late in the match, after their put-in, and made one Oz scrum unsteady on that side not long afterwards. Maybe Kepu's arm injury wasn't helping matters in these two scrums, but I am of the firm opinion that you need a strong scrummager as the TH lock.

Incidentally there were only 7 scrums in the game, 2 of which ended in either a FK or PK. At least there were no collapses in the other 5 - I can't even remember a reset.

I'm thinking that Deans has a cunning plan: to rest some of the key players when they win the series in the 2nd test. But first the Wobs have to win in Melbourne and fellows like Pocock, Sharpe and Higginbotham will be leg weary.

And I hope that they have done some restart kicking practice. When Priestland restarted short 3 times at Suncorp they were flat and accurate. They regained 2, and only a heroic take from Higginbotham put a tick on the Oz side of the ledger. The Wobs didn't recover any of their restarts.

All the more reason to have a specialist lock, probably TH side, on the bench.
Deans will most likely go for speed of play in the last quarter to put the Welsh away, but this is a fit and fast Welsh team.
Should be another fascinating contest.

Yep I agree, although I thought our best chance would be the first game, if we can contest the breakdown, and present the ball better in the tackle it should be worth the watch.

Glad that Wales went we Jones at eight instead of the rumoured ploy of switching Warburton to 8 and playing Tipuric at 7.
