Douglas' contribution is often underrated. He goes hell for leather for the full 80 and has more significant ruck engagements that just about anyone. He tackles and basically does the hard yakka at the coalface. Coleman and Arnold are the two fighting out to be second pick for now. I'd guess that someone like Blake Enever will be a Douglas type lock and may challenge down the road.

I like Coleman to partner Douglas as he has a pretty good running game along with decent lineout skills. He also has a little mongrel which doesn't hurt but needs to be directed productively.

Against the Springbok I see the current incumbents, Coleman & Douglas running on as locks. Other than Coleman's brain fart earning him a yellow, he otherwise provided Cheika with what he wanted. The bench will have Mumm & Arnold replacing them.
The Bokka prides themselves in their bully boy forwards, so Cheika will want to meet fire with fire. Hence Coleman followed by Arnold.

Easily? Based on what? Super XV form? cos he's had one Test (against a Teir 1 nation) so far where his ball-running was above average.

Yes, based on his showing against the Soap Dodgers. Who, in your learned opinion, has done better? In either Supe or Tests?

Michael Hooper. The guy who was nominated player of year only last year. Put Shalk Burger flat on his ass numerous times.

I don't recall McMahon capable of hits like that? Maybe against a winger but never against some-one larger then him.

Don't get me wrong he is a very good player but not quite there yet, very close, wouldn't surprise me if he came out with a blinder, but in reality his Test level ability is not yet proven.

So you either go with the proven guy, Hooper, or the potential; McMahon. McMahon a better line-out option but questions marks if he will be anymore effective around the field. So your comment around ball-running I really don't see.

Seb, I agree that Hooper has put some good hits on various people, but consistently from my viewing McMahon is the harder tackler and size doesn't matter to him either. Although, I'd suggest that the Burger of today is really only a "junior" version of the big Mac of a couple of years ago.

My concern is if Poey plays 7 and as expected plays the whole game, then who is better placed to replace a 6 or an 8? I'd have McMahon in those spots over MH any day. The consequence of playing McMahon off the bench is that it is the end of the Pooper even in the closing stages of a test match, but I do think that combination has run its course.

If Pocock goes to 7, and Fardy remains at 6 and say a Timani is chosen at 8 then there is no room for Hooper even on the bench.

McMahon would be a better option in the closing stages.

Question is can Chek pick a suitable 8 (not being Pocock) or an 8 he has confidence in. If not he has to retain Pocock at 8.

Interesting dilemma for the big guy.

I hope your right on McMahon, love his aggression, just haven't seen it translate to test level yet. Wish he was a few inches taller and/or a 10kgs heavier.

The article that pic came from says the Wallabies are sweating on his fitness. I could understand if that was for the EOTY, but no, this weekend apparently.

If Cheika selects him my expectations will hit an all time low.

Although can't be any worse then DHP on the wing missing every tackle.

I don't think Drew Mitchell would have faired any better defending in the Outside centre channel against the All Blacks 2 weeks in a row.

Don't think he would have missed as many 1 v 1's that directly led to tries. DHP was a bad as you can get. Brought me back to KB (Kurtley Beale), Cooper and Mogg in the early days.

But having said that Mitchell does not look like a good option at all. Rather Morahan, Hodge or even Speight who are looking 10 times fitter.
