No Genia is the only selection i dont like. I could understand if Phipps played well off the bench last week but he was pretty poor.

How Bigs AAMI Park, would it have been better to have it there ? Or is it just to small ?

Rugby fans probably would be willing to pay more to see the game there. Plus a full AAMI Park would be far more interesting than a half empty Etihad. Kinda ridiculous how the Socceroos with their far bigger pull in Melbourne are willing to play some games there than the Wallabies.

Tomikin,

Etihad had a capacity of around 56,000. So when you factor in the additional corporate facilities this includes, AAMI was probably too small.

The Wales test match in 2012 had attendance of 33,880. I guess it comes down to whether you want as many people as possible to attend, or you are happy to sell out when there is another ground available less than 5km away, which has better access and facilities.

Looks like Link is going back to the more old school method of promoting the bench to the starting line up in the correct position when players are unavailable and then bringing fresh players in to the 23 from the wider squad..who'd have thought!

The decision to choose Weeks over Ryan is why im such a fan of Link as coach. I asked for that exact change but i honestly thought i was asking too much to expect Link to go for a player outside of the squad. Link knows whats best for the team and couldn't give a shit if people's feelings are hurt. So refreshing. He's creating an environment where poor play and weakness (on and off the field) is not tolerated.

Cant wait to see Jones, Higgers and Weeks get a run. They can press their claims with strong performances.

Really hoping we can go 2 games up, so that next week the remaining squad members get a run. The likes of Skelton, Sio, Horne and Hodgson deserve it.

If it's a breath of fresh air for us fans, imagine what clarity in the selection policy would be like for the guys ensconced in camp Wallaby? You perform well - you have a better chance of selection; you have a stinker - you're likely to be on notice.

It's a real shame Moore is injured. I thought he and Link would be the hard nosed leadership that the national team has been begging for for years.

I am a fan of playing the BEST team available. These are Test matches not trials. Each one is precious. Each one goes into the Record Book.

The bench is used to coover positions. If we are winning big then fair enough replace everybody possible so that the benchies (often, the future) gain experience.

Last thing I want to happen is a second rate Wallaby team get fucking ambushed in Sydney by the Frogs. FFS

Just see that all the non playing squad members (bar 1 res) have been sent Home this week and will rejoin the squad on Monday is that normal?

I agree. The changes im suggesting would basically be isolated to the bench spots. And to be honest its arguable that those players should already be in the 23. Genia, Higgers, Sio, skelton and Horne all have their supporters and all 4 are likely to be a part of the world cup squad (Horne's WC selection is perhaps marginal).

Im sure link wants to use 2014 as a year to try out the different players in his squad and give the younger guys as much test match experience as possible without jeopardising results.

If we go 2-nil up, that provides a good opportunity to give those guys some game time

All well, except that he picked Ryan in the first place and hoped to fix his technical issues in a week.

I think Link had no choice.

The Tahs scrum practice this year is shambolic from the outside, so key technique problems that would be identified by a proper scrum coach who has time to do proper video analysis haven't been fixed. This is a shame, as the rest of the Tahs training this year looks to have reaped dividends but their scrum has gone backwards from previous years.

The Wallaby coaches, though, like Ryan and think he has potential, so call him into a wider training squad to try to fix his technique issues. They have no intention of letting Ryan run out, but when Alexander went down there was no other THP in the group so they had no choice.

As soon as a better scrummaging THP is called into the wider group, Ryan is replaced.

They never intended to fix them in a week, it was, no doubt, a project over the course of the post-Super season.

He was playing great rugby back at the Reds in 2010 or was it 2009. The move to the Rebels surely delayed his first cap by 3 or 4 years and opened the door for a young bloke named Slipper.

VCongratulations to Laurie

Maybe missing most of the 2012 season with a shoulder reconstruction had a bit to do with it as well?

Not sure that would have impacted his 2011 too much

I seem to recall not too long ago an interview with Kepu where he said he'd been dropped from the Tahs starting line-up because he'd been putting too much emphasis on scrum training and his running/passing game had suffered for it.

If that really is the case I despair of us ever being a decent scrummaging nation. Did you see the pom THP? He couldn't even hold the ball for 2 seconds without dropping it. I'm surprised he didn't eat it when they gave it to him.
