Eddie Jones, the great polariser!

Is this the guy that won a Super Rugby championship with the Brumbies, took the walllabies to a WC final, got Japan up to their greatest victory of all times and beat South Africa, and took England to a 6N championship?

Or is it the guy who took over a Wallaby side that held the WC, the Tri Nations Championship, the Bledisloe Cup, the Mandella Trophy and the Cook Cup, and three short years later had lost the lot, then went on to coach Queensland to their first ever last place in Super Rugby?o_O

Must say, this articles quite funny.

When he arrived at Scotstoun, from the early games and from reports from other forumites, he was little more than an amorphous blob from chin to belly to arse. In his last 4 or 5 games he clearly had lost some weight, with all three areas being visually distinct.

Why frame it that way when he's had 2 weeks away from both the Warriors and Australia on his own, to pack on as many munchy boxes, deep fried pizzas and servings of chicken pakora as his heart desires.

Except the Wallaby part isn't really fair. At least he won us a Tri-Nations. We didn't win it again until 2011. And he won us two Bleds. We haven't won it since. I think we'd sacrifice our left nutsack for a coach who could deliver two Bleds.

Was he as successful as Rod MacQueen? No. Was he more successful than almost every other Wallaby coach? By those two measures, yes. His weakness was England. May it continue.

Groucho,
Exactly the point I was making, you can have pretty much whatever opinion of Eddie you like, and you can find genuine facts to back it up.
As you have just done!

How on earth did he get so fat beween the Eagles game in September and the Champions Cup in November? The boy must be a big eater.

FWIW this is one of the best recent interviews with EJ (Eddie Jones) I've read. Gets outside the predictable cliches and media lines, and some interesting comments on B Dwyer, his and Chek's ethnic history and the role that's played, and so on:

Which part of it is incorrect - all seems pretty right to me, hell, he even admits to being part of the group that started the brawl.
The only thing I don't agree with is the suggestion that its somehow orchestrated by an agreement between the fans, journos and the ARU: 3 sections of Oz rugby that seldom agree on anything.
What he overlooks is that when some little turd, such as Brian Moore or Austin Healey, starts whinging we all arrive at the same conclusion quite independently.

Think he's pretty right too, at least with the main thrust if not the details.

You see it with the cricketers as well. Skywriting etc. Newspapers drum up these controversies to sell the papers and we supporters happily pile on too. It's an Australian audience after all

I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing. If you come here expect it to be hard to win.

Moore is like Greg Growden or Jeremy Clarkson - 90% troll while presenting an aura of cheesy factualness that he half believes himself is true.

Ticket update for Suncorp Test 1: there have been a reasonable number of Platinum and Gold ticket 'returns' to Ticketek in the last few days (these come back unsold from travel agencies, group packages and so on).

So there are some decent seating positions still available for groups of 2-4.

Tell the world - we want a sell-out!

I heard today that they (Suncorp) are predicting a crowd of 45k on Saturday. Close to capacity but would like to see it closer.

He's actually the same guy. Just like all of us, he has his share of success and failure in life's endeavours. I'd call it a very good record, with some tiems which weren't as good as he hoped. The thing is that he seems to be the sort of person who learns along the way. People who think that the bloke who will be turning up to coach England has learnt nothing and improved on nothing since his time at the Reds may well be disapponted with what they see. One of the worst mistake that anyone involved in sport can do is to underestimate the opposition - I'm sure that Cheika and the Wallabies won't be doing so.

My memory is poor, however: he was given the reigns of the wobblies at the end of their dominant period when McQueen had wrung everything out of them. He got them way beyond predictions to get to that final and they were a bee's dick off winning. He deserves some credit for that.
As for the Reds: they prove to be coach career killers more often than not. No one should be praised nor anyone condemned on the basis of their idiosyncratic performances.
