Wallabies v England November 1

Upthemaroon!

Hopefully Gordon is injury free soon. I think attacking-wise Schmidt's game plan can work, but you need a 10 that is on the front foot to get past the aimlessly popping the ball to the edge. Which happened this game, a lot, due to Edmed being so stagnant when receiving the ball.

Defensively it's time to say goodbye to Fisher.

Can anyone clarify Pollock's try ? I didn't think you were allowed to crawl regardless of being held in a tackle
Firstly, understand what phase we are in. It doesn't meet the requirements for a tackle, so that law doesn't apply.

So we are using Law 13. Players on the ground in open play.
13.1Players, who go to ground to gather the ball or who go to ground with the ball, must immediately:

a. Get up with the ball; or
Sanction penalty.

b. Play (but not kick) the ball; or
Sanction penalty.

c. Release the ball.
Sanction penalty.
He made an attempt to get up off the ground while diving for the try. It's fine. No ref on earth would have called back that try.

Gordon is no Saviour. Just go back and watch the Fiji test in 2023. We got dusted up front and carter got cleaned up. Hard day at the office with a pack going backwards.

Savior, maybe not. He didn’t have a great game that day, and got thrown under the bus for it, but that does not mean he isn’t potentially our best #10. Im happy to wait until he plays before passing judgement.

we got thrashed again against a side that hasn't played all together since March, I think we're now worse than last year

One thing that irked me was about the 65th minute and he wanted to check who the ball game off into touch - JAS touched it first, then it came clearly off the English player and into touch. Like very obviously, and then he said it came off JAS as originally ruled. It made no difference to the outcome at all but why bother checking??
And why not check where Wilson's kick crossed the sideline?

Unless something changes, Kiss who I don’t expect miracles from but we hoped he just take over a humming side could instead be taking over a side who have lost 6 of their last 7 with the sole win being Japan by 4.
I don’t think Italy will get close to what should be close to a full strength Wallabies. And I also think Ireland are regressing to their usual place in the rugby world - a Lions team stacked with their players showed that. If not for the English players and Andre Piardi we would have won the series. And France traditionally save their peak for World Cup lead ins. I’m a glass half full guy, I think we can win 2 of the next 3 and finish the year in the top 6.

Agreed, I think it will take him some time. The point I was making is that its a team sport. Not just a 10. That day was not his fault.
The dropped high ball was the difference though that day. It was youth and pressure. Not our saviour but keen to see him v Italy off the bench and JOC (James O'Connor) to start.

Disagree, Italy will be a close match

And then Paisami got penalized for doing the same thing in our own 22
Paisami was held - that’s the difference. It was a shame because he had a pretty good game but made 1-2 needless errors to spoil it.

There is a lot of focus on the backline - but we got beaten because we lost the aerial battle and Englands 6 forward bench (which included 5 Lions if I am counting right) towelled us up in the second half. Our forward replacements were all a step down by comparison. Up until then, even losing the aerial battle, we were right in it. Some sloppy play when we shifted the ball didn’t help but if our bench had been able to at least match theirs then the result at very least would have been a lot tighter.

With regards to Jorgenson - I get the ball didn’t come his way a bit and that can happen on the wing. Both teams seemed very intent on playing down Australia’s left. But Potter was in everything and Jorgenson barely sighted. Maybe it’s not all the fault of the people inside him.
