I really like that backline you listed mate. Reds halves, Brumbies centres, and Waratahs back 3 - could be a winning combination. This Wallaby team needs to establish combinations; playing provincial combinations should be an obvious way of doing this.

Yes... I did that... intentionally....

+1 to that

Suggesting that Genia - Cooper - Giteau - AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) is a better "combination" than "Genia - Cooper - Faiinga - AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)" is just another excuse for putting Giteau in the team, IMO.

Provincial "combinations" only mean shit at the top top level (ie against the boks in SA and against the ABs) if they, you know, work at that level. It's clear as day now that Giteau can't run around people at that level from the 12 position and he can't (or won't) run through them either. Some of you will pick him until he no long longer wants to be picked though, regardless of how he performs.

Substitutes: 16. Chiliboy Ralepelle, 17. CJ van der Linde, 18. Danie Rossouw, 19. Ryan Kankowski, 20. Ricky Januarie, 21. Butch James, 22. Juan de Jongh

Aplon should have been on the bench for Bitch James and not to sure why he did not start with JdJ in 13. Thought this two had good tests on the weekend. and obvious Bismarck should be starting and Pie Vreter to the NH with Duvenhage on the bench.

Even more proof that PdV picks on reputation. Aplon deserved to be on the bench. There is no reason to have James on the wood with Steyn in the team

And Kankowski ahead of Louw, who is the perfect insurance policy against Popeye.

I guess Kanko could be there so they can pull Spies if he goes to shit again.

So reputation selections are:
Steyn F
Habana (done nothing)
Spies
Smit
and to some extent Jean de Villers. de Jongh does not deserve to be dropped.

Oh fekit I am starting to bore myself moaning like this.

That's the best Bok team so far this season.

if people think JdV is a rep pick, how the fuck do they think we Aussies feel about Giteau? :(

Have just seen the Bok team.

I thought their team for last weekend was well selected, but they seemed to be affected by the altitude more than the Kiwis were. The altitude probably had nothing to do with it, and what we saw were the Boks being run off their feet by NZ, who must be the fittest team on the planet.

That's what the Wallabies will have to do also but in order to do that we will have to use our bench wisely as others have mentioned.

I haven't seen the Oz team as I write this but a 5/2 bench should be risked. I would keep Genia on for 80 minutes and if he is injured, then Giteau should take his place with Barnes to 12. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper), JOC (James O'Connor), and Beale are so versatile that the 2nd back bench spot could go to winger Turner, though he is more versatile these days also after playing 13 for Eastwood. There would even be a case for his starting the game on the wing and JOC (James O'Connor) being on the bench to step around in the last 20 minutes.

I'm not so fussed about who the 5 forward reserves are in this 5/2 scenario, so long as they play with a big engine. But we have to concede that the loss of Hodgson is a big negative for us in the big engine department.

And we should learn from what the Saffers have done so much in Super rugby over the years by having a 2nd prop replacement. Prop A and Prop B start the game but Prop A gets substituted for tactical reasons, maybe even before half time, and Prop C runs on. With 20 minutes to go in the game Prop B gets “injured”; so prop A returns. Better still if there is a bit of prop blood every now and then before the injury so there are more breaks for A, B and C.

When you are on the veldt you have to try these things.

Except rush up Fainga'a style to give Richie his try (although it was well finished anyway).

Well you can add Morne Steyn to that list if you want to. Making some basic errors but never mind. I'll be a fool if I dont recodnise where the test will be played and which players 100th test it is. The team sort of send the wrong message out to SA young players like Muskiet and JdJ who had been dropped specially for Fransie Steyn who is nothing less then a bloody spoiled brat. But I dont want to critise the team being picked with its bench passengers, we need to win this test and I'll back them specially in the Bull Ring. A 1 point win will do it for me.

Best starting side all year and getting back to 2009 strength in terms of player selections. Why Chilliboy is there over Bismarck is beyond me. Can only be the quota system. Aplon, Duvenhage need to be there and Butch back to the NH. JdJ I think is a good option on the bench (despite good performances) since he can cover for both centres and will probably be substituted on early in the 2nd half for JdV. On paper this Bok team should destroy anything the Wallabies can put up but I don't think it will be quite that way on game day.

Lack of a fetcher will be a big problem for them I reckon (and hope). The balance is out of whack, Burglar is a great blindside, a very poor openside, Smith is a great blindside and good 8. Spies is a gym bunny.

We raped em 11-2 in ruck/maul turnovers in Brissy, but coughed up 13-3 turnovers in open play to even it out. If we can do the the former but not the latter again, it will have a massive impact.

Otherwise it's a nice looking team

Well, we disagree on his fetching abilities, but regardless he's being played at 7 (saffa blindside).

According to Growden Deans is looking at sticking with the same team except brining back Cooper and sliding Giteau back into inside centre...

*sigh*

The side should be:

1. Robinson
2. Moore
3. Ma'afu
4. Sharpe
5. Mumm
6. Elsom
7. Pocock
8. Brown
9. Genia
10. Cooper
11. Mitchell
12. Giteau
13. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)
14. Turner
15. Beale

16. Fa'ingaa
17. Slipper
18. Simmons
19. Higginbotham
20. Burgess
21. Barnes
22. O'Connor

I reckon we could be on to something with the Reds' halves, Brumbies' centres and Tahs' back three idea. Might get mucked around a little bit when Ioane comes back, but for now it looks good. I'd much rather a specialist in Turner on the wing than O'Connor.

Either way, the Boks really should win this match given the Wallabies' huge injury toll and the altitude factor.

Slim - What players do we have waiting in the wings? The players that are out there are the best we have at the moment.
