Wallabies v Argentina Sat 2 October CBus Stadium

Wild yes, but as uncomfortable as it is, when it was put to me by my AFL obsessed brother, its plausible as he is on the injury roundabout but it never seem to happen on training paddock; only in games and the medical staff cant seem to get a handle on it (Reds and Wallabies medico's). I didn't see any another player go down like him with cramp over the two games last night.
That's a wild accusation... bordering on inappropriate really.

meh, some good stuff, some patience and a bench that couldn't keep the structure and showed no patience

Still unsure in Petaia, just does too much stupid to be a test player IMHO - yet

I am not going to celebrate the random miracle pass that comes off if 60% of those passes end up as just moving pressure to someone else or a turnover

He needs to do the basics more and the show pony stuff less, as Cooper is now, play within himself and don't f*ck up

Yeah tries man.

A winger who finds himself in the right place to finish moves is worth far more than one who doesn't regardless of other metrics.

It's pushing things to suggest Kellaway is worth more than Koroibete, I would have thought. Though I do get your point.

It's a good point. I think MK is a rare exception to this general rule. He's such a strange player (in a good way).

It depends how you interpret it. I didn't suggest it was illicit, not banned substances. Its also only a theory. I am suggesting in my post that he may be trying to do things to help himself that are actually hurting himself. It common in many athletes and understandable. He could simply be frustrated that he has potential but it set back after setback. There are penalty of options to "Juice up" that may not be the best option but are also legal and available.

Stop and consider the COVID "options" people are taking. Horse wormer for example. Having worked closely to the Prohibited and Imaging Enhancing Drug (PIED) space with the ASADA, there is some seriously scary but legal stuff available.

He cramped up after playing more then 20mins for the first time in 6 months, lets not turn this into something it isnt ffs

I thought there were some other periods of really good play too. There is still work to do, but the attacking structure is definitely coming together.

One thing which has been very good is the generation and use of quick ball. Players are providing moving options which is making the defence spread and the cleaners are much better - although I feel still a bit of work to do in that regards at times. Our support play is much better, but I think there is still room for improvement there too. But both factors have really improved.

Credit where it’s due to Nic White. I thought MmcDermott was very unlucky to be moved to the bench after the ABs series, but White is playing possibly his best footy with the quick ball being generated (and that he is helping generate).
I reckon you've really nailed it there TSR. Quick accurate ball from the breakdown was a joy to behold. And it really does cause no end of trouble to the defence.

Off topic I know. I assume you’re referring to ivermectin. It’s a drench for all livestock, not just horses, even zoo animals. It works exceptionally well for parasites, not sure about a virus though, I won’t be touching it. Which isn’t to say it’s harmful to animals, I’m yet to see a negative side effect from it.

I do get your point though. These are professional athletes I.e. they derive their income from it, and if the traditional isn’t working it’s not outrageous to suggest they might seek a better outcome elsewhere. I dont have any issue with that as long as it’s within legal limits.

I dunno. Koroibete had gone on a long try drought before his recent try and he was still clearly one of our best.

The issue is where wingers don’t finish chances that they clearly should.

Edit: sorry, just realised this has been coverred

Honestly i think MK is setting a new standard for whats expected of wingers, his work-rate is a lot greater then any winger i can think of in recent history in Australia. He doesn’t have the height or size, but he has strength In contact, footwork and speed which is creating a new dimension

We're going down a strange path here, but if Petaia took ivermectin......... the cramps wouldn't be in his legs.

For me the biggest decline in both Genia & Gregan as players was when the started slowing ball down at the back of breakdowns.

I know a lot is made of whether a half has a lift and/or takes a step or two at the back of a ruck - and it is a really important issue - but I think it comes second to them simply getting the attack going again in one manner or another. The only caveat is that it needs to be accurate which is where Phipps used to fall down and where McDermott sometimes still does.

Ive written often enough that I’m my take on Nic White is that he is a reasonable test half without being exceptional but I think he is playing really well at the moment by doing the simple things well and effectively. Interestingly one of the big supposed pluses for him was his kicking game but, for me, that is taking a back seat to his quick, accurate service and the occasional well taken snipe (like the dart he made last night). If he can keep doing what he is doing and McDermott can just add a bit of zip to his pass we’ll be very well served.

Haha I don’t think mst was suggesting he is taking ivermectin, only using it as an example of extreme things people do

Paul Cully seems to be referring to Petaia with his assessment and perhaps supports those suggesting leaving JP at home.

"Frankly, there was a bit too much fluff in the first half, too many flash plays and needless offloads that threatened to undo the great platform given to them by the dominant scrum. They got away with it but as they head to the northern hemisphere, they must acknowledge that recent wins have put a target on their backs and they aren’t good enough to get loose too early."

Throw Tupou in that bucket as well - a couple of stop-think-offload moments he'll want to forget when he could have just hit the line and run like a prop, just for something different. Great games the last couple of weeks, tarnished a little by last night in the open.

There were a couple of others in the midfield short ball that put us in no better position than just taking the contact, or putting it out the back to a sweeper.

Tupou's worst game in a while. I love that he has a short passing game but he just needs to stick his head down and use those tree trunk legs to gain a couple of post contact metres more often.

He was pretty fortunate they didn't take a closer look at the no arm hit as well.

Is it really that surprising for a guy who hasn’t played more than 20 minutes coming off the bench and whose probably not renowned for his endurance, to start cramping in the 60th minute?

It’s not ideal but it’s something very easily solved by electrolytes, conditioning and more importantly more game time.
