so whats your suggestion? Don't say Quade. I actually like him, and have willed him on many times, but it just doesn't work, especially in NZ. Give me something to work with
Mate you know the answer. The problem is the lack of even trying to grow depth.....try others after many many failed games or even the blindness to the failings by 90% of the punters around here!
As I said ANYONE would be better then Foleys form this year. And that includes Quade.....who if you actually look at the stats for super rugby.... has done ok compared to Foley this year despite playing injured most of it. Quade WAS the backup and despite Foleys form was not given game time to even see what his Test form is this year. NOONE else has been given time at 10 other then Foley this year. I shall post some stats.

Were my eyes deceiving me or were our backs pretty much lining up by number in defense at the set piece?
What a difference it makes when you reduce the D-dance to a minimum.
Speight was once again poor in defense and you have to think Naivalu would be a better option on that wing.
Rob Simmons had a good game again and Rory Arnold really stepped up. Still not convinced by Hanigan and would like to see both Higgers and RHP in the next RC squad.

Ok so here's some stats directly from the Fox archives for this year. I've included a few well performing Kiwi and Saffa players as a yardstick of sorts. Obviously stats never tell the whole story....but they do go along way to shooting down ridiculous claims that "blah blah " has sucked at "blah blah" all year so shouldn't be picked!

Foley missed tackles 23, 1Ycard, 4penalties
Quade missed tackles 16, 1Rcard, 4penalties. (Quade attempted more tackles then Foley as well, and was actually far less of a "card threat" then even the current undisputed All Black 10)
EJanties missed tackles 34
ACruden missed tackles 42
Both Barrett bros missed tackles 22/22. BBarrett 4Ycards, 1Rcard
DHavili missed tackles 25 (the Champs)

Tackle % efficiency
Foley 49%
Quade 61%
Barrett 69%

Ineffective tackles made
Foley 13
Quade 6

Handling errors
Foley 26
Quade 29
Mckenzie 29

And here's a few for those calling for Folou to be cut due to season form with kicking and missed tackles....

Kick errors
Folou 1

Tackle effectiveness %
Folou 61%
Barrett 61%

In effective tackles
Folou 9
Barrett 9

Missed tackles
Folou 16
Barrett's 22/22

Read of that as you will...

Fairly happy. Don't understand what really changed, was it as simple as grey & Cheika readinh the forum and decided everyone defend in their possies?
Still concerning it took last week to realise that. And still concerned the system is flawed regardless (going on points leaked by wallabies and Tahs). Imagine if we had good D to go with the O?

think the saffa games will be telling as to where we are.

Thing I see with Foley is he is 'a solid distributor' as someone stated. And he's a good runner.

But he's not a playmaker and he's kicking poor. He's also not really less error prone than quade but seems to get away with it.

He's probably a better 12. With 10 on the back you expect/need kicking and playmaking.

I think it's time for quade again. He was finding some form towards the end of the season. The fact he's not in the squad is ludicrous.

I'd like
10 quade
12 Meakes/hunt/Hodge
13 TK
15 beale

Sefa and folau on wings

My biggest problem with Quade is taking the ball into contact, where he is much softer than Foley and inexplicably poor decision making/passing at times. The bigger the stage the worse he often seems to get. None of that shows up in the stats though.

I doubt that Quade is the answer but agree that Cheika dismisses these players too readily. If Foley is injured there is a big problem at 10.
Would like to see a Beale-Hunt 10/12 combo as an option when Hunt is fit again and Quade in the wider squad as back up until then.

The Sole reason for the loss?

29 + 2*3 + 3 = 38

38 > 35

Who didn't kick those points?

I think that unfair on Foley, the old story if he had got one it may well of changed the whole way they played. Similar to saying if McKenzie hadn't of thrown that pass that Folau intercepted the Aussies wouldn't have had a chance.
My take was I quite enjoyed the game, and was pleased to see a good contest. I thought perhaps the ABs were not too flash at a lot of the things they did, looked like their timing was just off or something, but maybe that was because of the pressure the Wallabies put on them. So I would say it was what it was and to try and blame one player etc from either team is unfair.

Dunno if the AB's could have been more aggressive in how they chased the 7-pointers when they were playing from behind, so not sure if being somewhat more behind for large portions of the match would have changed too much about what they did in this instance.

It's time to grow some good Australian 10s (and 9s) for the future.
Plan ahead.

Given NZ were the home side and the pre-existing gulf between the two sides on the WR (World Rugby) rankings, I thought we might have picked up a rankings point or at least half of one. But no. I know the system has flaws but that just exemplifies it.

Foley missed three conversions and a penalty. But forget the penalty as it has consequences that alter the course of the game.

So at best he failed to get us a draw. Still lose the Bledisloe for another year.

Not good enough, but didn't lose us the game.

Even the conversions would alter the course of the game - the players would have returned to the centre of the field in a slightly different timing and formation than they did, and the kick off would not have been identical. Even if the only difference was a fraction of a second in the timing the consequences could have been markedly different.

If Foley had got 3 of those 4 missed kicks the ABs would have found a way to score another try, or we may have scored one less.

To think if we had have not fluffed the restart after Beale's try which gave AB's back possession for final match winning try by them we could have been heading to Brisbane for a decider....so close....

I actually am still stunned by the quality of the Wallaby performance as after Super Rugby performance this season had such low expectations. Quality game. Also had a lot of players play a quality game that did not think had in them.....McMahon and Simmons case in point.

May have lost the game but would not have lost too many fans with that performance.

We have been complaining about Aussie team game plans (or lack of) for years. Last night is what all Super teams and the Wobs should be aspiring to every week. Direct attack and defence, it was beautiful to watch.

Well done boys, stick with it, play that game and we'll get the Bledisloe back next year.

ARU; demand all super teams adopt whatever Check did last night or fuck off.

Presumably QC (Quade Cooper) is playing NRC: his performance there might determine his future.
There is a huge problem with cover for Foley and while most posters have him there on sufferance there is no alternative. If he can't start a game that will be a huge issue because beales days as a 10 are a long time ago.
