A great game to watch..IMHO..Moore and Foley have to go. Everyone else at least did their job or better. SBW had a shocker.
BUT..as promised, and much needed, here's "Bernard's Foleys"..the Good and the Bad

1st min Folou try.Foley no try involvement, but misses wide conversion.

6th min. Noticed Beale has the in goal clearing duty..be interesting if that continues( so we don't get our typical charge downs)

8th min. Foley throws garbage wide pass at Beales feet...lucky we had advantage..as the ABs would have scored.. (Commentators called it an "extravagant" move from Foley knowing there was Adv..LOL..it was a simple wide pass..that SUCKED)

10th min. Foleys timing of a questionable highball to Folou ends well with Aus line out. (Great idea, poor execution/timing)

11th min Foley kicks easy Hooper try conv.

13th min Foley kicks good attacking highball for DHP to contest out wide.

14th min. Foley Great TRY backing up of Genia Superb linebreak...Foley misses try conversion... Foley now 1 from 3 conv

18th min. Foley gets lucky with his clearing kick, touched and almost charged down.:0

24th min. Foley plays adv well and kicks across field.

27th min. Foley throws a terrible cut out pass (which despite the tackle of Folau, was NOT in Folou reach.) VERY lucky another run away try wasn't awarded, same as in the 8th min after a shocking cut out pass!

29th min. Foley misses another easy conv..1 from 4

36th min. Foley slips over when Barret Chips thru the line and is the last one back in the scrambling defensive line. (nothing major but slipping/tripping ALOT of recent)

41st min. Foley throws a forward pass to Speight.

42nd min. Foley flicks on a no look ball to his outside that goes to ground with no chance of an overlap or a move on the outside. Unnecessary stupid pressuring pass, luckily mopped up.

Mate, Michael Cheika here. Couldn't help reading your analysis. Clearly I've mucked up and haven't appreciated your depth of ability and knowledge. Could you please send

48th min. Foley pops good inside ball to Kuridrani

50th min. Foley totally misses one on one tackle.

So far Beale been getting the clearing kick duties!

55th min. Foley helps Beale make a good tackle turnover on SBW.

56th min. Foley poor clearance kick :/

67th min. Foley conversion MISSES AGaIN!!!! :0

76th min. Foley converts Beale try from in front..:)

78th min. Foley SLIPS over again helping let a linebreak thru for the match winning try..(bit of a stretch but hey...he did slip over on D therefore unable to cover his inside).

Soooo it seems Foley doesn't really get involved with Wallaby tries, hasn't all year..unless he's the one scoring. No try involvements at all bar his 14th min try. And as usual guys this was an analysis of Foley..not the Wallabies, win or loose.

So far IMHO.if your still defending Foley, your deadset a TROLL. ANYONE including the likes of Will Skelton, Cheika himself and Quade Cooper.. all perfect candidates for improvement at 10!

Mate, Michael Cheika here. Couldn't help reading your analysis, and I've barred up. Clearly I haven't appreciated your depth of knowledge and experience and have over-looked your selection. Could you please send your CV, care of ARU, and I'll get you on in the third. I look forward to victory under your able guidance.

PS: it isn't clear to me, are you 15 or 16? years old that is.

For those calling for the replacement of Moore and Foley, who do you want to replace them?

TPN is great, far more impact than Moore, but he looked exhausted after 25 minutes of play. He and Moore seem to be splitting games, so it is a bit semantic as to who starts. If you get rid of Moore altogether who's the 3rd man up? Not saying Moore is great, just genuinely curious who that would be. Moore can at least play for 60 minutes if need be, though I do agree that his impact is waning. He is 34 after all.

As for Foley, what a conundrum. I think people underrate just how great he is in attack, often with his running game, but his distribution is solid as well. He plays hard every game and makes very few errors running/passing. Has genuine pace. I don't think Quade Cooper is the answer for a host of reasons. Who else can play 10? Beale, yes, but then who goes to 12? Personally I think the Wallabies should keep the lineup from today but either let Beale do the kicking or replace Speight with Hodge and turn the tee over to him. Speight doesn't deserve to be replaced, but if they need a kicker then put out Hodge. I'm assuming he can kick accurately. Why not? You basically can't kick much worse than Foley is right now.

Also, why don't they ever box kick? They seem to have serious problems sending the ball back in their own end. I don't know why they don't pound the ball a bit then just chuck up a box for Folau or DHP to chase. The Lions did this with great success against the ABs and there is no chance of a chase down or deflection. Can Genia not kick or something? I swear I've seen him box effectively in the past.

2:27-2:30 looks bad and is heavily suggestive of intent. To be fair to Retallick though it looks more like an angry brain snap rather than a calculated act of maliciousness--not that this should lighten the punishment he might receive just lessen the stain on his character.
At 1:29 you will notice Hanigan deliberately sit up and put his arm over Retallick head so Retallick head is under Hanigan arm pit. So unless Hanigan releases that grip, the action of Retallick getting back to his feet would mean that Hanigan will ride him so to speak simply because he has his arm over Retallicks neck / shoulder.

IMHO i think this will pan out as a simple case of if Hanigan actually putting himself in the position that caused the incident.

Foley missed three conversions and a penalty. But forget the penalty as it has consequences that alter the course of the game.

So at best he failed to get us a draw. Still lose the Bledisloe for another year.

Not good enough, but didn't lose us the game.

I like to watch

Just read the last page and thought I was on last weeks thread.

We were leading the game at 78 minute mark, the doom and gloom overstates our deficiencies tonight.
after last week I'm actually pretty chuffed with tonight's performance.

The AB's played like shit - Absolutely hopeless performance.
Wallabies played above themselves and still lost.
It is what it is and it isn't what it isn't.
Comments on here resemble the Welsh.
But a reminder - The Wallabies lost.
Bloody poor performance by NZ but they still got the job done.
A performance well below acceptability couple with an Australian performance that was good and above normal - Can they sustain it - I very much doubt it.

I really do wonder when people are happy with a loss.
An AB loss is never ever acceptable.

It is time that this AB Team kicked some arse - The Wallabies will be thumped when they play game 3.

This performance from NZ was just not acceptable and Shag will be starting to get pissed off.

Why are there so many Kiwis on an Australian rugby forum? They seem to be a recurrent and inescapable part of life, sadly even in the online world.

Great effort by the Wallabies tonight, unfortunately came up short, but for 80mins they stuck it to the Kiwis. I just hope they didn't play their "final" and struggle to back it up against the Saffas and Argies.

I doubt it. After all of the criticism this should give them confidence and something to build on.....I hope.

Coaching wise the defense was much improved, they were up way faster and fared far better in contact. Same thing on offense, far more direct at time and made hard yards. They got a bit away from the same old pod system they've been using for ages and I think that was a good thing. I don't think the pods they've been using are horrible, but I think they've been figured out and fail to to move the ball forward too frequently. Kurindrani played great on D, as did Beale, but credit also to the forwards for knocking backwards guys like Retallick and Whitelock. Amazing progress from last week.

I think some of the worst parts, from a coaching perspective, since they are fixable are:
1) The re-starts, both kicking and receiving. Boost someone for God's sake and mix up which side you kick to. Folau or DHP should be chasing every single time and I'd like to see a few deep kicks. Worked well for the Lions.
2) Exiting their own 22, which is a nightmare.
3) Goal kicking and penalties. Time to turn this over to Hodge or Beale.

Too bad he's not there just for his place kicking.....he's our Playmaker.....who some here claim he's doing a good job of. Two intercepted try passes that were both lucky to be bought back for infringements.....a knock on...slipped over twice, once letting a defender thru, totally misses another simple 1 on 1 tackle, tips a risky ball to no one with no attacking advantage in sight, a forward pass, and as mention a pretty poor day with the boot. Whats a guy gotta do to get done for murder around here???...murder someone? :/

It's now been game after game after game.........I'm blown away that so many find his form acceptable!

Cost us the game
Who do you think.....everyone's favourite playmaker...Foley! Wouldn't be a bad idea to kick a contest able restart to two of the 3 best guys in world rugby under the high ball....Folou n DHP! So many missed opportunities.....

so whats your suggestion? Don't say Quade. I actually like him, and have willed him on many times, but it just doesn't work, especially in NZ. Give me something to work with

This is the terrible fair weather assessments that boggle me! Your calling for a new kicker because he had a poor night....but last week was 6/6. His% this year is equal to Barret. Not great, but laughable that's what's bought up to kill a player!
Exiting form your dead right tho. Foley is so poor.....once again he came millimetres from being charged down...there was contact.....that this time Beale did it most of the time. Foleys two attempts ended in a poor distance kick and as close to a catastrophe charge u can survive!

I love Foley and would leave him in the lineup at 10, but Beauden is also not a great kicker, so I don't think that's a useful comparison. It's also his kicking from hand that isn't great and that's an area where Beauden is fantastic.

I hold my breath every time the Walkabies exit their 22 as too high a probability of a block, a shanked kick, or a kick to touch barely outside their own 22. Given all that danger I would rather see a 50/50 box kick.

If Hunt comes back into the squad soon I'd like to see a second half with Beale at 10 and Hunt at 12. This is a realistic back-up to Foley-Beale.
Why was Foley kicking for touch again, at least until Hodge came on? DHP also has an excellent kick for touch.
This is what I never understand. If there is someone better than the 10 at kicking for touch or goal, let them do it. Who cares what numner they are.

At low level rugby I've played this honestly drove me insane with hookers and lineouts. There would be a great thrower at 8, but the hooker that can't throw AT ALL would be left there all game to just give the other team the ball.

A major difference in the game was the willingness to keep ball in hand. Both sides looked good in attack but the Wallabies were too eager to kick it away. All blacks seemed comfortable trucking out their own half where Wallabies relied on kicking for territory. One kick resulted in the kiwis going 22 phases before scoring. The All Blacks are just not a team you can afford to give easy ball to. I'd like to see Wallabies attack with ball in hand a lot more because they looked dangerous when they did.
