Yeh mate, if Robinson, Slipper, Kepu were all out (apart from being fucked in the front rower), Daley would come in I'd assume. Unless Deans opted for Alexander and Ma'afu.

Good thing is we are starting to build some depth in the propping department

No prop touches Crockett for work rate. And he can scrum too.

Daley would be a great international prop if he could figure out how to scrum. (Not fishing, he may never play tests again).
There are many who say he rebinds after the hit and angles in on the tight head. Both illegal.

If Deans has shown anything during his tenure as Wallabies coach, it's that he's extremely loyal and that he's very set in his ways. His 3N squad will be heavy on forwards, and he'll only take 2 hookers and halfbacks and rely on those two not to get injured. He'll probably take a lot of loose forwards, and I think that's a good idea as he has a big, albeit positive, selection dilemma on his hands. With players like Samo, Hodgson, McCalman, Higginbotham et al. pressuring the established trio of Elsom/Pocock/Palu to maintain their spots.

My predicted 3N squad:
Stephen Moore, Saia Fainga'a
Benn Robinson, Ben Alexander, James Slipper, Sekope Kepu
James Horwill, Nathan Sharpe, Rob Simmons, Dan Vickerman
Rocky Elsom, Scott Higginbotham, David Pocock, Matt Hodgson
Wycliff Palu, Ben McCalman, Radike Samo

Will Genia, Luke Burgess
Quade Cooper, Matt Giteau
Berrick Barnes, James O'Connor, Adam Ashley-Cooper, Rob Horne/ Anthony Fainga'a
Digby Ioane, Lachie Turner, Rod Davies
Kurtley Beale, Cameron Shepherd

I would be surprised if the Wallabies squad is not very similar to last year's squad. The only likely changes would be as a result of injury. I'm not saying that is what I'd like to see, just what I expect to see (so don't be surprised to see Mumm, Brown, Maafu all in the squad).

McCabe a little unlucky?

Who misses out? I rate McCabe, I'd have him over Davies, however I think Deans will be interested to see how Davies performs at Test level. A 50:50 call between those two.

Neither will I, so that's why I tried to follow the Deans formula. I went for the same amount of players per position as last year, and picked the same similar playing group.
Wallabies 3N Squad 2010:
Adam Ashley-Cooper Fullback/Wing/Outside Centre
Berrick Barnes Inside centre/Flyhalf
Kurtley Beale Fullback
Richard Brown No 8/Loose Forward
Luke Burgess Halfback
Mark Chisholm Lock
Quade Cooper Flyhalf
Ben Daley Prop
Rocky Elsom (c) Flanker
Anthony Fainga'a Inside Centre
Saia Fainga'a Hooker
Will Genia Halfback
Matt Giteau Inside Centre
Scott Higginbotham Loose forward
Matt Hodgson Loose forward
Rob Horne Centre
Peter Hynes Wing
Digby Ioane Centre/Wing
Ben McCalman Lock/Loose Forward
Salesi Ma’afu Prop
Drew Mitchell Wing
Stephen Moore Hooker
Dean Mumm Lock/Loose-forward
James O’Connor Fullback
David Pocock Flanker
Benn Robinson Prop
Nathan Sharpe Lock
Cameron Shepherd Fullback/Wing
Rob Simmons Lock
James Slipper Prop

So out of the 31 players I listed for this years squad, all but six players were there last year. Ma'afu is out because not only has he been bench-warming for the Brumbies all year, but both Alexander and Kepu have returned from injury- both players blooded and persisted with by Deans. Daley misses out to make way for Alexander, due to his scrummaging, and Deans' man-love for big Benny. Mark Chisholm is out with injury, and is replaced by Vickerman who, whether or not it's warranted, will be in the selection frame come Test season. Mumm makes way for Horwill, who's proven his worth this year for the Reds. Brown will move over for Palu, which is pretty self explanatory. Hynes and Mitchell are out of the picture with injuries, and I think either Davies or McCabe will take one spot, with Turner taking the other. Samo will get a spot for either Horne or Fainga'a.

If Dean Mumm makes the squad that will be a disgrace.

Brown would be understandable even though there is many players infront of him, same with Ma'afu.

Swarley's logic seems irrefutable. There simply isn't enough space for Deans to keep the players he drafted in to replace his first-choice options, now those options have returned, and nor would he want to.

There wasn't anyone else. Even Big Al was injured if my memory serves correctly.

I don't think Al was injured, Kepu was but he was 100% fit for the EOYT. Not only fit but was dominating opponents for Randwick against other Super quality props.

I'm very impressed with the depth Deans has created. I've been very disappointed by the lack of success lately, on top of the continuous selection of dud players, but some of his experiences have paid dividends and I'm a little more confident of success if we lose a big name player.

1. Robinson vs. Holmes vs. Dunning vs. Daley
2. Moore vs. Polota-Nau vs. Fainga'a vs. Edmonds
3. Kepu vs. Slipper vs. Baxter vs. Alexander vs. Ma'afu
4. Horwill vs. Vickerman vs. Mumm vs. Chapman
5. Sharpe vs. Simmons vs. Pyle vs. Kimlin
6. Elsom vs. Higginbotham vs. Mowen vs. McCutcheon
7. Pocock vs. Robinson vs. Hodgson vs. Waugh
8. Palu vs. McCalman vs. Samo vs. Brown
9. Genia vs. Burgess vs. Phipps
10. Cooper vs. Giteau vs. To'omua
11. Mitchell vs. McCabe vs. Cummins
12. O'Connor vs. Barnes vs. Fainga'a
13. Ashley-Cooper vs. Horne vs. Mortlock
14. Ioane vs. Turner vs. Davies
15. Beale vs. Shepherd vs. Morahan

Deans has had an influence on the depth we're experiencing, but it's not as though all of this depth is thanks to Deans. Deans didn't create it, although he is part of the success.

Australia is in a much healthier position then 4 years ago...

In 2007 who was our back-up THP/hooker/halfback/five-eight/inside centre/fullback

At least in 2011 we have rather commendable depth in almost every position(almost)... The fact that a rookie BB had to play 5/8 back in 2007 exemplifies this.

Swarley - agree with most
1. Agree and IMO that Holmes has done enough over past 2 weeks to be elevated back into real contention - the final will seal the deal - Dunning and Daley probably won't get it as Kepu, Sliiper and Holmes can cover both sides as well as Alexander (sort of)
2. Agree
3. Slipper then Kepu then Alexander - Deans won't give Baxter a shot (although derserves it) and Ma'afu would be very very lucky
4. Agree
5. Agree
6. Probably should be Higgers on performance but Rocky will get it - captain and all of that
7. AGREE with Pocock and Robinson but Waugh no chance
8. Agree except leave Samo home
9. Agree
10. Agree but probably not with Matt T
11. - 15. - Mitchell - will he be ready (if so fantastic) love to see JOC (James O'Connor) at 12 - Barnes (unfortunately) too big a risk - Horne (great player but prone to injury) and Mortlock (just a little old and slow) Beale just a must

The factors that Deans had control over were selection and coaching. Whatever one can say about his level of success, he has done very well for us on both those fronts. Our young stars have two seasons of international rugby experience compared to their counterparts in New Zealand. That advantage in experience will never disappear.
