Gee the 2nd row stocks have really taken a hit with Arnold out as well. Looks like Barbarians game didn't really have much effect on the squad. Would much rather see Banks over Perese at this stage. Big Taqele often cops a lot flak but he put up arguably his most complete performance in Union ever yesterday, unlucky not to grab a spot as well. Heard he's always up at Moore Park with a couple of other non-Wallaby Waratahs, hopefully he keeps training hard and he puts up a few performances like yesterday in Super next year.

Also I know we're down on options at 6 and in the 2nd row but taking Hanigan on the EOYT is not a good career move. He's got test experience what he needs now is a full offseason with a lot of gym work.

Apparently Banks was left behind so he could play NRC finals

What does that even mean? He's good enough to go but it's more important he play NRC finals? Can't say I see the logic behind that call. Was a bit underwhelmed by Hunt's performance yesterday, hopefully he was just rusty. After yesterday's game I was actually thinking it would have been good to see Hodge at fullback and Banks in the hybrid/wing fullback position at some point on the tour.

Disagree, I reckon Perese is an absolutely key unit going forward, great player

Apparently Banks was left behind so he could play NRC finals, but I think he deserves to be there over a few players as fullback cover for Hunt...

Tom Banks and Taqele Naiyaravoro were considered for the trip after fine performances in Sydney on Saturday but Cheika has opted for Maddocks, a precocious player who has shown he has what it takes at Super Rugby level.

Tupou was the only one mentioned in the SMH
Cheika said Taniela Tupou will be flown over midway through the tour after his NRC commitments have finished.

Where did you hear that? Doesn't make much sense when they select others including Perese who will now miss the NRC finals.

I got that from mst over in the Brumbies thread, but it could be wrong...........
Personally I would've thought Banks >>> Maddocks.

Banks looks pretty handy. But there will always be a couple of unlucky ones. Perese is quality and is worth his spot IMO.

I thought Banks had done enough yesterday to book a spot but I guess it's only one game. Unfortunately for Banks he's only recently been able to really throw his hat in the ring because he was stuck behind Toa at the Brumbies for a large part of the season, Perese got a much better go at showing his skills at the Reds. A bit of a champagne problem though having to split hairs between two promising young wing/fullbacks when we've also got guys like Koroibete and Hodge in front of them.

Would have liked to have seen Valetini get a development gig, but that might have interfered with the experience he will gain in the NRC finals. Was that really a statement by Cheika (as reported) in relation to Banks and others? Couldn't lie straight in bed if so.

Surprises to me are McMahon - didn't think he would be eligible having signed to play in Japan; Moore - thought he had announced his retirement from all representative rugby; Tui - looked like, and reported to be out for the duration of the EOYT with a hammy injury.

Doesn’t make sense that some players were allegedly excluded for the NRC finals but others weren’t..

Tupou only becomes eligible for the Wallabies by the last year on tour, no point taking him, better served playing rugby in oz

Enever probably preferred over Carter because of his ability to play at 6; extra valuable now with the loss of Dempsey and Tui.

Tui will be available for the last 2 games on tour as said by Checka this evening

McMahon isn’t signed until the 2018-2019 Top League season.
