Redsman I was looking forward to this series now I'm glad I didn't hand out the dollars to go. The names picked to date suggest the same approach as the RWC, and last year.

Kiwis sacked Deans for a reason, and are laughing at us.

He's played at 12 for club and from what I remember hearing it didn't go spectacularly well and he said he didn't like it too much either.

Was at the game, he went alright but he is one of our best 7s, look how lose he went to the John Ealse medal last year and the number of games he played.

Laughing and then to top it all off using bent refs to pip us at the post in every tight game.

BRING on the Link ERA!

I

With Phipps in now at least for the moment - imagine if Burgess is still picked and our second best 9 is considered number 4 on the pecking order - wtf

If Deans is looking for previous experience I can respect the Phipps selection. I personally like White but I can understand the logic in Phipps. The whole Burgess option has left a sour taste in my mouth for moral reasons.

Personally I think the best qualified second 9 for the Wallabies would be a carpenter. Someone who can do really good work with pine.

Does McCalman jump in the lineouts ? Im assuming Higginbotham would have been if he was playing. Scott may play - his injury sounds like McCabe's in the RWC, maybe he has even slightly more time, especially for games 2 and 3, and unlike the RWC semi final, it is not sudden death if he cant play in game 1.

McCalman has played 21 Tests according to Wiki. If it was lineball between him and Schatz I imagine that will have got him over the line. That and his ability to play lock at a pinch. I don't see why we need three 8s in a squad though.
Well, its a 3 test series and one of the 8's is Cliffy Palu, who unfortunately has no great record of durability.:)

McCalmann I can't even tell you what Soup side he plays for, that's how much he's stood out.

I rate McCalman this season over that marsh mellow Palu and even Dennis to a lesser extent. In fact I rate all of the force loose forwards over any of those tahs mentioned.

I would have gone with Nic White.

Yeah. Palu isn't the right selection and he has not been any good for the past 2, 3 years. He is miles away from his best 4 years ago.

Even brown is better.

Anyone saying cooper outplayed JOC (James O'Connor) is in denial. He made way to many mistakes. In a test that would of been game over. One charge down might be the only try in a test. We can't allow that to happen.

I only buy this picking out of form players argument when they are proven class international players.

It's fair to pick say Genia, Pocock or Horwill when they are a little out of form in super rugby because you know they can bring the goods in a Gold jersey.

But picking guys like McCalman and Phipps simply because they have played a number of averages tests doesn't calculate in my mind. Better off to pick the in form player like White to the be the back-up, even if unproven at test level.

Is Pyle injured or just not selected? I think he has been a wisker ahead of Douglas this year on form, but Douglas bought the goods last year so I see that as a fair selection.

Shame to see carters name not on the team sheet for the Country Team as he could have been a bolter for the later tests. Especially if there is another injury to one of the locks.

Ah he plays for the Force, then. Still haven't noticed him, with regards to an 8 and purely on form;
Higgers, Mowen, Palu / Shatz, I'd even have Samo over McCalman - BUT - that is only because I haven't paid attention, he maybe playing fantastic rugby and I'll happily stand corrected.

My quote was purely with respect to the Tahs on the wallabies squad. Pretty sure the Force Backrowers have outplayed all their opposing numbers in Australia except for the Brumbies who gave them a belting in contact and at the breakdown.
Personally I would have picked a couple Brumbies ahead of Big Mac.

Easy everyone. Phipps is a replacement for Ioane

So he rates Phipps as the next best winger in Aust ahead of all others? Sure, that makes more sense.

Have been a supporter of Deans ... until now. What does White have to do? Hopefully this won't shake his confidence, only make him stronger and better.

Been living on this site for over 2 years but never posted. Thought it was time to join the fray. Deans has probably pulled Phipps into the Wallaby squad to force Hill to give Burgess a full 80 on the weekend?

In a sane world, Jake Shatz or Richard Brown would have been selected over McCalman.

Both in way better form. Shatz being inexperienced is understandable, but personally I've thought Brown has out-played McCalman every match this year.

Although, as I type this, I've realised how grim our 8 stocks look without Higginbotham. GET BETTER SOON HIGGERS!
