Doesn't Deans usually go for three scrum halves anyway? I think he wants to see more of White and Phipps because if Burgess is coming back and he is picking two of the three, he'll want to know which to pick.

This is just sad. The rest of the rugby world (specifically Gatland) are laughing at us.

I think the only way Quade will satisfy Robbie is if he walks on water.

How so? Why is Gatland laughing at as?

And QC (Quade Cooper) will satisfy me when he performs consistently at the highest level in major competition. So far, not so much.

Scott, surely they'll need a back-up for Palu. Or do you anticipate Higgers to 8 and Hooper to 6?

the final six you would think is going to require
a 10 (Quade!!!!!!)
a lock (Mcmeniman almost surely for the versatility factor, if not then douglas for the brawn)
1-2 9's (white and/or phipps)
A winger (mitchell?)
a fullback and/or centre depending on whether dingo sees barnes as a 15 only or as capable back up at 10 or 12 (Beale or maybe he's hanging out for McCabe or Taps?)

Sir Arthur Higgins

Dick Tooth (41)
with only two possible outside centres, I think we will see another centre called in among the 6 (not sure who this will be given mccabe is injured) we will obviously see a 9 (burgess or white) and i think we will see either a full back or a 10 (QC (Quade Cooper) is my pick to come in)
wingers - ioane, cummins, folau, JOC (James O'Connor), and tomane - well covered so i don't expect a winger to come in.
scrummy, playmaker and a centre. this will be a direct centre. with mccabe injured, i think Inman is a very strong possibility to get a call up.

to come
hooker - only two hookers named and another will be needed.
lock - douglas or pyle
back row - i think this is covered. higgers, gill and mowen can all play 6 so i don't see anyone else coming in. 7 covered as well
scrummy - burgess is my pick but phipps and white probably well in the mix
fullback/flyhalf - whilst JOC (James O'Connor), Lilo and Barnes can all play 10, they are also probably earmarked to cover other positions such as 12 and 15. i think a fly half will come in and it will be QC (Quade Cooper).
centre - true centres there is really only lilo, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and horne. deans would've picked another centre if mccabe had been available and i think he will go with a similarily direct style of player. smokey - mitch inman

On the basis of robbies comments I really just think he wants to see quade play the lions, front up and make his tackles. If he does that he's in the next 6 almost certainly

Can anyone tell me how many games JOC (James O'Connor) has played at 10 this year? - not a joke, I would seriously like to know. Any update on his ribs?
Not sure if we will see the best of Genia in this series without Cooper along side him. Genia is a world class half back but is at his best when Cooper is along aside provide some direction.

Has anyone been following Burgess over there? hows he goin?
Have been watching, he is playing ok but still stands at the back of the ruck whinging for the ref to call something too much for my liking, nearly very play! Has a good running game but relies heavily on his forwards, but that's just my opinion and I am biased towards White!

Would be happier itch Izzys selection if he re-signs with the ARU before the first test. Time for him to stand up and show some commitment to union. No doubting his ability tho.

I reckon the first test team Deans selects will be:

  1. Robinson (Alexander)
  2. Moore (Fainga'a)
  3. Slipper (Kepu)
  4. Horwill but will wear #5 and captain
  5. Timani (Simmons)
  6. Higginbotham
  7. Gill (Hooper)
  8. Palu
  9. Genia (Burgess)
  10. JOC (James O'Connor) (Barnes)
  11. Ioane
  12. Horne (Lealiifano)
  13. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)
  14. Cummins
  15. Folau

No real kicking option at the back. We'll see Barnes in the 15 jersey for sure.

The question is whether Folau will be selected at 14.

So the ARU finally bends it own rule about OS players with the intent of creating a path for George Smith and instead we get Burgess?? Nic White has been in great form - a definite kick in the nuts for him to not be nominated as the back-up 9.

Because we've played directly into his hands. Can you honestly not see through his mind games? Well Robbie can't - "yes warren has already offered his opinion on our selection herrr herrrr duurrr".

The last thing Gatland wants to come up against is Quade Cooper and an attacking backline. So what does he do? Goes to the media and claims that the wallabies will select him in the hope that it will encourage the ARU selectors to choose an alternative option. It's basic stuff, why take advice from the opposition coach?

Kind of a double bluff situation I guess but good on him.

Warren will have a field day running his enormous centres through our boring and unenterprising back line. Our boys will have no chance at bashing through them and O'Connor will not have the attacking decision making skills, passing or tactical kicking game to break their stone wall defence. Two things are now certain:

1)We will play the same footy we did against Wales

2) and I will sit here, as futile as my efforts are, fuming about how disappointing and unsatisfying watching out flagship team play has become. That is regardless of whether they win or not.

"We want to play smart, attacking, running rugby"

Good on you pulveriser for sticking to your word... haha.

Because we've played directly into his hands. SNIP.

So, let me get this right: You claim RD didn't pick QC (Quade Cooper) because WG double bluffed? QC (Quade Cooper) wasn't picked because RD fell into WG's well played media trap?

I see G&GR has become a host for the conspiracy theorists. What utter nonsense you have dribbled here.

Lift your game, please.

And how do you figure that?

Sure it'll be boring with Genia, O'Connor, Lealiifano, Ashley Cooper, Tomane, Cummins and Folau... real boring.

Hell even Horne sliced through a few gaps and passed the pill against the ponies...

It is going to be hard for him as a 10 to play behind a pack with no Horwill, Fainga'a, Simmons, Gill or Slipper, and without his mate Will Genia and impress. Why start preparations now if the plan is to bring in a key position player later. Surely the last 6 will be all good "back up" players but not really important key men like 2s, 15s, 9s or 10s

I'm not sure how selecting Quade makes it harder to run big centres through our back line. Nor is it clear to me why the Pulveriser is responsible for Robbie's selections.

But I do think there is a chance that Quade makes the final squad.

There are a number of reasons (as poor as they are) that Deans did not select QC (Quade Cooper). I would say that Warren's comments were just one aspect. Haven't you heard of mind games between coaches before?

Say what you want, Gatland is loving this.
