It is interesting to see where the French clubs invest in players, and where Australian rugby does.

I don't think we would align very well with their priorities.

I don't necessarily think the French are right here

I don't think Tupou is a great example. It's clearly a bad contract that won't be renewed at anywhere near that price point.

We can't offer the same amount as an overseas team trying to poach a player. That would be foolish. We should be able to pay McReight about 80% of it though. He's a critical player and easily one of the best we have.
While I don't dispute that McReight is one of (or even) our best players, contracting is about opportunity and value for both sides. Is Tizzano as good as McReight, no but if he is willing to be contracted for half of what McReight is does that make McReight more expendable, of course it does.

It is also really hard without knowing what is the driver for the individual is. Not everyone is in it to maximise their salary.
