Wallabies 2025

Excellent to see contracts being locked in beyond the World Cup year. It will help the after world cup squad rebuilds that most nations seem to go through.

I hope he can keep his form up. There is a lot to like about this bloke and his presence on a field. The Wallabies have lacked intimidation players for a while now. Swinton could show glimpses of it but was more liability than asset.

Then we have players like Valetini, Bell and McReight who intimidate with their playing ability but I think CdC is one of those guys that oppositions need to know where is on a field and he doesn't seem dirty at all. Few genuinely hard men are needed to be successful in test footy.

Another great rugby acronym added to the books

Agree with most of this - but have to say I can’t imagine many guys enjoy being tackled by Bell or Valetini.

That's true and I don't doubt those blokes but having a work horse demon in the pack goes a long way. Dirty work is exhausting and I want my more ball in hand threats able to be in position to take the carries or go for the pilfer.

There's a lot of players vying for those backrow spots.

We've got Valetini, Wilson and McReight who are basically walk up starters from last season and then Rob Leota is back healthy and playing pretty well, Langi Gleeson's had a good start to the season with a MOTM performance in round 3, Liam Wright just returned, Champion de Crespigny is playing well, Charlie Cale is back and the list goes on.

Not going to be popular opinion but Liam Wright doesn't sit at the top of the priority list in my mind if that is who your'e referring too? Could be Tom? Not because he isn't talented but his lack of availability through injury is a concern.
It's Tom Wright the article is talking about:
Five-eighth Noah Lolesio is rumoured to be heading to overseas after this year, while backrower Fraser McReight, fullback Tom Wright and halfback Jake Gordon are key retention targets for RA.

Appreciate that. Can't read the article. Can get around it but I know it'll be clarified by the boffins on here.

T Wright is at the top of the list but if he gets a Tom Banks type offer is there much we can do? He deserves a better offer than Banks as well.

Long term offers + sabbaticals. It's not perfect but it gives us some wiggle room and 4-5 year deals do carry a degree of certainty that players appreciate. There is plenty of risk in that and it's not something we can offer to players as they get older (how old depends on player/position), but it's our best chance of competing at the top end, if we want to keep these guys.

Wright is the highest priority for me. No one comes even close at fullback.

At least with McReight we have a few quality flankers who can step in and do a solid job like Tizzano. The drop off in quality at fullback is large.

Averaging 7 games a season for his Japanese club in his 4th year there. He got the greatest deal of all time
That's incredible. Must be a bit odd for these highly competitive players who dream of adoring fans, representing their nation etc. etc. Having such good offers that they can't refuse to go disappear into Japan and have no recognition at all for your rugby (from your own world).
