Wallabies 2025

The way it's being described with the one-year option sort of sounds more like a two-year sabbatical. Seems more like a work-around to ensure he fits within the selection policy and is made available to the Wallabies for the years leading up to RWC27. I'm not against it, but it's clear we can't afford to retain our best, so why don't we just acknowledge that by picking the best 23 we have for any Wallabies match regardless of where they are playing.

The "9 month" contract is interesting. Australian players are contracted until November aren't they?

Presumably Exeter want him over there in September and playing until June.

I guess we are just releasing him from TRC as an act of good faith?

As standard, but there have been plenty contracted only until the end of June to save money recently - we saw that with players like Hanigan leaving immediately after super rugby finished last year.

Pretty sure they were contracted, but released from their contracts, as Schmidt/RA couldn't see them making Wallabies.

Ikitau must be a different story, one who would be in the squad, and probably playing? Pretty generous if we are just letting him go.

No, I'm almost certain some were reported as having contracts that finished mid-year, not just early releases (though I might be wrong on Hanigan specifically).

As far as Ikitau goes, it sounds like he'll only be unavailable for one test in that 9 months - the out of window game against France on the EOYT, and RA have been working with Exeter to make sure everything goes smoothly. Not sure what it means for the remainder of his current wallabies deal or what month it ends specifically.

No idea re his contract but TRC would be covered under reg 9, should we wish to pick him.

That probably speaks to the working with Exeter part of the story. "We'll let you have him here if you work with us for other test windows" sort of thing,

Sounds like he will be called up for the international windows for TRC and November tour, so maybe starting in England in October, with time back in the Aussie squad in November

My form team of the year so far....
Before people get upset - this isn't selecting a Wallabies 23, just my opinion of form team of the year so far... Now, obviously, some teams have only played twice, and in Brumby's case, some wallabies missed one of those, so they're naturally at a disadvantage.

1. Bell
2. Dolly
3. Tom Robertson
4. Williams
5. Smith
6. Uru
7. McReight
8. Wilson
9. McDermott
10. Donaldson
11. Pietsch
12. Stewart (is there really anyone playing better at 12?)
13. Flook
14. Jorgensen
15. Sua'ali'i

16. Asiata
17. Pearce
18. AAA
19. Swain
20. Gleeson
21. Tizzano
22. White
23. Potter

HM: Champion de Crespigny, Daugunu

Hooker and inside centre have been a bit average, no real standouts so far..

I'd probably shift Jorgo to 15 just to get Daugunu or Potter onto the wing, in terms of back 3 in general it's that group of 4 (Jorgenson, Pietsch, Potter and Daugunu) that have been light years ahead of the rest. Otherwise I'd probably still have Wright ahead of Sua'ali'i given his limited minutes.

I'd also throw Lynagh in as an honourable mention, he'd come straight onto the bench if you were going 5-3 instead of 6-2.

Yeah i agree on Dauguni, Potter, Jorgensen...but in my arbitrary selections, i only chose them in the position they played; the only flexibility to this was the bench
Also I think the one game Sua'ali'i has played this better was more effective then the one game Wright has played this year, so sticking with JAS at fullback.

Ronan O'Gara with 6 straight losses and admitting his team is in crisis. Not exactly inspiring much confidence as option for the next Wallabies coach
