Wallabies 2024

BPA is the best possible when available. Porecki is likely to still be seen as safe so there is a spot for the next guy. It's not Uelese and he's with Moana now so he'd count as an international pick?

I like Lonergan, think Pollard has huge potential and Feassler feels like Porecki 2.0

I want to see them both get over the ball a bit more, i'm not saying they need to be Malcolm Marx or Jamie George. I thought LL after that wales game he won might take that a a moment for him to start putting his head into those dark places but he just didnt have a massive season last yr I thought he might grow into. But still young plenty of time. Hopefully he has a massive one in 2024

Despite being tainted with the Jones' brush, I think Matt Faessler is very effective and reliable (feels like Porecki 2.0 (agreed) not the worst thing)

Lonergan needs a haircut before he can be considered a serious test number 2

Agreed. Shit hair cuts should be automatic disqualification and red stamped folders 'no pick until remedied'.

Do we select Mark in 2024?
Part of me says - best team possible each game regardless.
Part of me says - fuk that guy, don't pay him match top ups

Hope he has a big 2 years in league, if he wants back into wallabies for 2027 WC, then he will need to kill it otherwise his value will drop, not increase (depending on how our stocks look at that time).

Beyond those guys Flook probably gets his start on the wing (or as a bench utility covering it) and Vunivalu will likely keep plugging away, people may not like him but there's plenty of upside to his game and he will hopefully get a full super season to push his case. Pietsch is likely in the frame too, though I personally don't rate him as a test prospect yet.

Beyond that it'll be a bit dependent on who is playing at wing for the super sides. Daugunu and Potter could both make it with guys like Vaihu and Lancaster probably a couple of years off still.

It'll also turn a bit on the Fullback situation - if Campbell steps up there then it frees Kellaway for the wing, but Campbell is unlikely to be an option as a test match winger and if Petaia or Wright end up focusing on wing alone either could lock down a spot pretty quickly.
Can’t believe guys like potter, daungunu, Campbell and Lancaster are in consideration but I guess we have lost our 2 best wingers

Yes we need him in 2024 especially if he’s to come back in 2027

he’s our best winger and we need Kellaway at FB because there’s no one else

with Marika likely gone if we don’t select mark next year we’ll be forced to turn to wingers who aren’t test standard

Marika has said he is keen to play on - yay for 2024 at least. Yeh you aren't wrong - I'm just jaded. It's also a big IF he comes back for 2027. We won't know for almost 3 years!

Surely Lancaster is not being considered

Potter isn't that surprising given his relative success in the UK. Daugunu was one of the best in Australia A so it makes sense he is currently 'next cab off the rank', but if still pick Marky IN 2024, Koroibete has said he is still keen and Vunivalu got better towards the end, we may still not see him.

Still want Toole given a go, SA is doing FAR too well with their diminutive yet elusive wings and this guy is exactly that!

I would definitely have Pietsch ahead of Filipo in the wing stakes. It surprises me that so many posters here think we have depth at wing. I reckon it's one of the spots we are desperately short of quality.

I really only think it's our issues at fullback that are weakening our wing stocks - if we had Kellaway, Petaia and Wright as the 3 main wingers in the squad I think we'd be in a very good place. Realistically though at least 2 (if not all 3) will be playing fullback all season in super rugby and at least one will probably end up there for the wallabies.

The other aspect is wingers do mature early and arrive quickly - if there's any position where a player can come from the clouds off the back of a breakout season it's wing.

short answer no, we have 13 tests before the lions series that 13 opportunities to find the best 2 wingers for those 3 test. If he was staying he should have started all 13 of them

So, any ideas on who those fast developing wingers might be? Jorgensen presumably might be one, but probably being considered for 15 rather than wing. Corey Toole is being mentioned by many, but his defence (one on one tackling) at present would need to improve. I think Dylan Pietsch is ready to step up to this level. He is a classical winger imo and wouldn't let the side down at all. Long Term, I like the look of Angus Staniforth, but it would be too early in 2024 despite maturing early and arriving quickly.

I have some misgivings about Andrew Kellaway at 15 but if he can make that spot his, then both Petaia and Wright are right in contention for those wing spots. But both have some drawbacks.

EDIT : with a back three of Petaia, Kellaway and Wright, who kicks us out of trouble or wins a dual with the opposition? Who, precisely, has a Jack Debreczini boot?
