Wallabies 2024

With Pietsch out it makes even more sense to bring Kerevi in IMO. Wales in a relatively meaningless Autumn international is surely the best (and probably last) chance to see if he still has it.

I would leave Jorgensen covering from the bench.

It would be absolute madness from Schmidt to break up the Ikitau/JAS combo after a single successful game...

Whether or not Kerevi still has it seems far less important than continuing on from last weekend and establishing this current centre partnership.

Strangely enough, I'd consider Kerevi at #11 looking to hunt for ball opportunities off the centres. Yeah it's along shot. Personally if we want to see Kerevi in action there is Aus A, isn't there. Right now I think we have more important outcomes to be building in the centres.

Fair enough.

I look forward to Kerevi starting against the Lions in a years time with no caps in 2 years because Ikitau or JAS go down injured.

Keeping hopes of a slam alive is hardly meaningless. imho.
Agree.

But even more so just aiming to win every individual test we play in would be a real plus at the moment.

It’s been a long time before we’ve been able to consistently string good performances back to back. So far we are on a winning sequence of 1.

Let’s just focus 100% on making that 2.

A relatively simple solution is to start Kerevi at 12, and push Ikitau and Sua'ali'i out one.

12. Kerevi 13. Ikitau 14. Su'ali'i. Keeps the Flickitau/Jo combo together and whacks Kerevi in.
My initial response was that I hate it, and I think I still do, but there could be some merit to it.

Last week the wobs looked most threatening playing tight for several phases then going wide when an opportunity presented. I worry about Kerevi's distribution game, particularly in comparison to Ikitau's, but he does (or used to) bring a fair bit of punch midfield, which could help to create further opportunities out wide. Having Kerevi run from 12, draw a few in, hit the deck, and getting quick ball out to Ikitau and JAS slotting into the 12/13 channels could be juicy...

In Joe we trust.

Samu does have 49 test caps and 10 yrs experience as a pro. We’re talking about the difference of him playing 2 extra games 8 months out.

I do really like the idea of the Welsh defence having to decide if they double up on Kerevi or Sua'ali'i (or both) and turning their defensive line into a sieve for Ikitau and Wright to walk through. Give Sua'ali'i a Digby style roaming commission and the Welsh won't know where to be or what to do.

Not sure it would be as good a call against a stable and relatively in-form side (like Ireland), but the Welsh, of the back of 10 losses on the trot having just been beaten by some classic Fiji rugby? It's the stuff of nightmares for them. Does probably rely on Sua'ali'i having spent enought time training for the wing though.

To shoot down my own suggestion, Joseph's positive involvements were his ability to get his arms free and effect the offload, harder to do that on the end of the backline.
What I'm reading is, we want JAS to have more touches of the ball.

Perhaps the messiah should be shifted inside and wear the 10 jersey?

Then we can just have JAS, Kerevi and Len at 10, 12, 13 and we can get back to what made Australian rugby great "running it".

At 11 with a similar game plan as Koroibete had, and I fear we'd see him with a card after the first kick chase and head high tackle, or receiver taken in the air.
