Wallabies 2023

When I was involved there was one guy employed by NSW rugby who brought onboard a large number of schools in Western Sydney and made a huge impact, then NSW canned the guy and over the next 10 years 60% of schools playing rugby disappeared. There were many factors causing this but this one was obvious.

Not so, the majority of good players come from a fairly small group of schools and the state rugby structure could find retired ex-rugby players to volunteer or pay expenses which would be better than a teacher with no idea running around because someone has to do it. They could upskill a coach who shows some promise and that is cheap.
Believe me I have seen it and it's embarrassing. Exception being Dave Dennis' father at a Western suburbs school.
Gives me the shits all this talk about great days for Aus rugby and buying leagues for a couple of million, when the school rugby system is rotting and disappearing fast.
Nobody is buying any league players for a couple of mill. The head of RA comms refuted it, the chairman has refuted the money offered would be that much and even Fox via Christy Doran have since wrote an article saying that kind of money is highly unlikely.

So what do we do when Hooper comes back? Who plays off the bench? I would start McCreight every time and bring Hooper on from the bench. We need a quality poacher and we have been without a specialist one since Pocock.
No point playing an openside off the bench.

I McReight is not available and they really want a pilferer, I would consider Brad Wilkins.
He has certainly been performing at Super level as he was consistently in the Rebels best players and his greatest strength is his work over the ball at the breakdown.

Before everyone shits themselves with rage over this reported $10M, I might draw your attention to this:

This is just the Loig Trolls setting up the outrage machine prior to finals and post-season contract talk.

Never let good bullshit go to waste. Fertilise your crop of Winnie Blues with it.

Getting ahead of myself but let's assume Hooper doesn't go on the EOYT. I'd say we need another pure 7 to go on tour. I think Gleeson right now would be considered the backup to McReight and play 7 if he gets injured. Who's next?

-Wright
-Hardwick
-Wilkin
-Reimer
-Scott

Have any of them been playing footy recently?

We do have the option of Colby Fainga'a in France too.
Liam Gill up for a game?

From that list I'd tack Reimer if you are looking for the genuine 7 option like many have said in here. Samu isn't a starting test 7. Jahrome Brown is a bit of an all rounder that could do well. Reimer comes up with key steals and seems hard as nails.

Liam Wright needs games. I'd love to see him and Wilson knock out at least 60 mins in all 3 Aus A games.

Glad to see Hardwick has been playing club footy down in Vic. I just see him as a poor mans McMahon and falls well behind more talented guys at the moment.

Not a bad shout if they don't take a backup 7 and McReight gets injured, which is how I think they will go. E.G. McReight 7 , Samu backup emergency then call someone in if needed.

Hoops of course comes back in but McReight is making a case for himself. He gives the back row good balance.
6 is really still the issue. I reckon we would kill for a Fardy right now. Maybe Frost is an option long term?

Speaking of McMahon, where the hell is he at these days? He would be the perfect option at 6 if he's still got it.

I'm assuming since he was not considered as a Giteau Law player brought back he's not playing so well.

McMahon was brought in last year. He played off the bench like 10 mins vs Argentina? He didn't go on the EOYT like the other Japan-based players. He didn't seem as committed as the others.
