Wallabies 2021

Philip, Rodda, Hooper, Hanigan all to be back by the series and I'm thinking one of the overseas jokers will be used on Latu (pending covid rules at the time).

Rennie saying this camp squad is picked on form and potential. He's not putting a line through any of the 2020 hookers or any of the others not picked from the 2020 squad yet but has issued a bit of a challenge to perform in the back half of Super AU and the possibly the Trans Tasman comp.

In terms of Kaitu'u and Lonergan its a chance for him to take a closer look at those two and some others who have been picked.

He did mention that Philip is coming back after the French season and that Swain is a lineout caller that are what the squad is lacking at the moment. Rodda a chance to come back into the squad too but a wait and see scenario at the moment.

He also says there's been no chat around captaincy.

SRAU captain's a bit of a curse this year with either injury or suspension to most. It has managed to unearth JOC (James O'Connor) as a viable option as Captain I don't think there would be many of us that would have put his name forward at the beginning of this season.

Don’t sleep on Tom Wright, I expect him to regain his spot once he’s injury free.

Can someone please highlight for me what Darcy Swain bring? He doesn’t look physically up to Super Rugby let alone the test match. Technically? Not there

I agree almost 100% with Dctarget team except why Neville in XV and on bench?

Swinton instead of Valetini. Hodge? Nononononono

That would appear to be a problem. Why neither BPA nor FF (Folau Fainga'a) are there leaves me wondering. Uelese not so much given his injury history.

Certainly an eye towards the 2023 RWC with so many 20 - 22yos. But good to see Neville recognised for his form the past couple of years.

FF (Folau Fainga'a) hasn't done much to show he's up to test standard and he's had a fair few chances.

That said the alternatives leave a fair bit to be desired.

Ok times up no supporter of Swain?

There are two locks coming back in Philip and Rodda, I also won’t be surprised if he uses one of the overseas jokers on another one. In fairness Swain has been one of the better SRAu locks this season, and they obviously need to fill in a few holes when they hit the training camp. He’s worth a look but I’m not expecting him to get capped unless there’s a few injuries.

So squad of 40 being chosen for wallaby camp this weekend. Let’s see if I can name 40.
From row: sio, aaa, slipper, bell, tupou, pone F, faingai, bpa, mafi (9)
Locks: LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), hosea, Neville, uru, FLW (Fergus Lee-Warner)(5)
Backrow: mcreight, hardwick, valetini. Swindon,Wilson, Samu, anstee (7)
Halves: white, Tate, Gordon, JOC (James O'Connor), Noah, harrison (6)
Centres: To’omua, Paisami, Jordy, ikatau, simone (5)
Wings/fb: Koriobete, vunivalu, hodge, dagunu, banks, Wright, Campbell, muirhead (8)

There you go quick Stab at 40 players - will come back and see how close lol
So checking my list and who did not make it..
Sio - Big surprise omission - injury?
Faigani and bpa with lonergan and force hooker selected - ok with that as both shown form but did not see that coming
FLW (Fergus Lee-Warner) - unlucky imo
Hardwick - unlucky imo but lot of backrow competition
Campbell - ok with that as I don’t think test ready but may be chosen as been better of players playing 15 this super season

Not pumping up swain but out line out was terrible in all 6 tests last yr.
Swain been ok this season so I am fine with his selection for PONi

I actually don’t have a problem with any player selected - some who missed out I think unlucky but I don’t see any controversal selections

Confucius,

Rennie is quoted as saying Philip will be back. Like others I don't think we'll see Swain in the test side this year, but I reckon you are overly harsh about his form/skills. He does a ton of work in the tight, hits hard in defence and is the main organiser of the Brumbies maul in both attack and defence. He does not break the line often, but his job is otherwise.

Pairing Hosea and Neville in the second row presents a problem that they both play similar styles; mainly attacking locks looking to bend the line with ball in hand. I can see an argument that Swain, or some other similar lock playing tight, would complement either of Hosea or Neville better than those two playing together.
