Yep, they are pretty adept. But of course back in the good old, bad old, days, national allegiance was a pretty malleable quality. Des Connor flew to New Zealand and became an All Black almost overnight.

In the same era, club rugby in Sydney was based on residential qualification. If you wanted to play for Gordon, for example, you had to reside in their district. (Mind you, if you didn't have a "Gordon" address, they would organise one for you pretty quickly).

If we call in a European player as cover for fullback it will almost certainly be Kurtley. I didnt mind Mack Hansen as a player but we can’t go selecting fringe players for test matches just because they have another passport. BR won’t like this proposition but might take some comfort in Rennie being the 4th consecutive Wallabies coach to select KB (Kurtley Beale).

Yet to see that KOB. I most certainly wouldn't like to see KB (Kurtley Beale) back in any role. Too many issues both on and off field.

I have no wish to see Hanson playing test matches at this stage, and I have no expectation that he will be called into the squad, but as a long term investment it might pay dividends to have him around the squad rather than just let the future unfold where he gats an Irish jersey rather than an Aussie one.

Side comment, another reason to love Kellaway is the man clearly has never been inside a gym. In this day and age of peptide muscles and shiny waxed 8-packs, he looks pretty average joe ripped. Big fan

Yeah he's not a (by modern standards) classically athletic bloke, but he's a very smart footballer. There's something to be said for that.

That's gutsy leaving them all out there but I agree the general philosophy of prioritising wins. 2016/17 spent breeding test players for 2019 world cup was the wrong approach, make these guys earn games.

If they're adding Arnold and Skelton though, they had to ditch at least one lock. LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) is the easiest to leave out given he hasn't been there for a few weeks anyway.

I guess they could make the argument that Swain would benefit from staying home for the preseason but at the same time, his good form has probably seen him jump up the pecking order.

Anyone know when the squad is due to leave and if there are any quarantine requirements in either Japan or UK?

Will the closed borders still in place here affect the makeup of the squad or its preparation?

No quarantine requirements in the UK coming from Australia. You just need a negative test two days prior to flying and you have to take periodic tests after arrival (usually only one).

No issue heading over , but they will need to do 2 weeks coming home as per everyone else. Our International border is still closed , talk of home quarantine for the double vaccinated is a possibility for 2022.

Those that tour will have a short preseason into Super Rugby with it starting so early.

Pretty sure there are quarantine requirements going over, to Japan at least. Not as strict as Australia though

NSW based players will have 7 days home quarantine. More than likely the Victorians in the squad will as well
