Wallabies 2020

Still think DHP will get the nod at fullback, with cameos from Banks. Campbell has had a few decent games, think he's well off Gold yet. Give him another year or two of Super.

Yes I agree. Both have been playing very well but DHP clearly outplayed Banks when they played each other, and incumbency does count for something as long as you are in form. I'm not sure what Rennie is thinking but it probably depends whether he wants 2 fullbacks or 2 wingers, if it's the former then Banks is a chance for 14.

Is it 33 man squad for the incoming tour?

Going to assume no foreign based players (maybe they'll bring in a couple for Rugby Championship)

Hk: Fainga'a, Uelese, Mafi
Prop: Sio, Slipper, Ala'alatoa, Thor, Smith/HJH (Harry Johnson-Holmes)
Lock: Rodda, Simmons, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto), Phillips
6/8: Valetini, Naisarani, Samu, Dempsey/Wilson
7: Wright, Hoops

HB: Powell, Mcdermott, Louwrens/Gordon
FH: To'omua, Deegan,
C: JOC (James O'Connor), Hodge, TK, Paisami/Meakes
OB: Koroibete, Daugunu, DHP, Banks, Beale, Wright

Backup centres is a tough one. Our main 12's will mostly be 10's, then without Petaia, we only have TK doing well. Hunt and Meakes are not standing out, Paisami is a big time rookie, and guys like....english, Magnay and Moeroa aren't doing anything either.

Is Daugunu eligible this year?

11. Koroibete 14. Banks 15. DHP would be alright. Although the wing, more than any other position, lends itself to a bolter being selected so Wright is a chance and I wouldn’t mind seeing him have a run against a non-top line team.

I think it's usually 31 in the main squad and they often take a couple of developing players in recent years. I think JOC (James O'Connor) is the best FH at present. Don't mind To'omua at 12. Beale might want to lift his game. Wilson has better form than Dempsey at this point, otherwise pretty close I think

Simone has been playing better then all of them.

Apart from Simone's obvious omission, I also think Maddocks will come back into contention as the hybrid wing/fullback, especially if he can force his move to his rightful spot of fullback at the Tahs. On the flip side for the Tahs players, any of Hockings, Blyth or Swain would be my pick over Simmons. Heck, even Neville on his showings so far this year.

I don't think Uelese has played any rugby in his career... I'd not have him in my squad until he gets some serious rugby into his body. Plus I think Anaru Rangi is a better more complete player anyway -- it's not like young hookers is a problem for us anyway.

I think Maddocks has 7s plans this year, should rule him out of wallabies contention.

Where does Hodge fit into all this? I don’t see him making it on the wing outright. Maybe he gets a bench spot as a utility but there are surely others who can do a better job coming on as a specialist.

Its a tough one as I dont see him playing really that well at the moment, but his never really disappointed for the Wallabies on the wing, I just think we should be looking at people with a bit more pace

I hope he goes with two strike wingers. This second full-back stuff is shite unless you have two world class fullbacks who are as dangerous finishing as they are covering the backfield.

I sort of agree, butI think you can have a "second fullback" who's still a strike winger. The important thing is that they have some ability to kick and give options on return. You can have one run only winger like koroibete, just not two. I don't want to see DHP/Hodge/Maddocks/Banks starting on a wing though.

Wright and Campbell are both looking like possibilities at the moment, Daugunu will probably come into the conversation when he's back playing too. I really like kellaway in that role as well, but the way the rebels are playing I just don't think he'll get there this year.

I'd agree Hodge is probably on the out. Maybe he's a squad inclusion to cover the centers. But IMO TK and Hunter are above him for the 13 position, and we have a heap of guys able to play 12, at this stage I'd say 12's down to even Stewart is playing better than Hodge at the moment (in consideration for 12).

I can see Maddocks as fitting the hybrid fullback wing spot. He has loads of recent experience on the wing.

The others I don't want to see start on wing: DHP, Banks, Hodge, none are great wingers.DHP and Bank should be fullbacks and nothing else. Hodge could be a solid utility on the bench but on given form shouldn't even be in the extended squad.

Would love to see a new bloke given a crack.

Tom Wright should definitely be in the conversation for a wing spot... he's got the gas, great footwork... a real handful. Also looks to have soft hands and a kicking game.. I'd have him and MK penciled in for the 1st test. Reminds me a bit of Miner-Skudder from the AB's a few years ago. Could also potentially end up as a fullback in time.

Maddocks is way too soft in contact to be a test winger.

One thing I also love about Wright, is he backs himself, (although can be bad), but I can't remember who it was against but they showed him the side line and so he took it with out hesitation and just turned on the gas.

He can kick pass and run like lighting, hopefully his defense is up to it, also his quite big as well.
