Wallabies 2020

Up the Guts

Steve Williams (59)
Hooper is basically built for coming off the bench. His speed against tired legs. I know I'm probably in the minority but I really don't rate Naisarani his body position is awful often leading to knock-ons form his or team mates, he has one or two 'Rob Simmons moments' every game, then he can't jump and is only really good for running the ball.
And Valetni has always been 'potentially good' but has yet to really step up.
I read verbatim the same quote about Naisarani having one or two ‘Rob Simmons moments’ (whatever they are) on the front page a couple of days ago.

I don't see Wright beating McReight to the open side.

I don't see Samu at 6, right now he'll be 8. So Wilson ends up 20, depending on what happens at 7.
I agree. McReight’s speed has been a massive factor in the Reds’ defensive turnaround as they were just too slow against the Tahs with Wright at 7. That’s not a slight on Wright, I just think he’s a six long-term.

Stealing lineout wins against the vaunted Reds is hardly a negative. Not to mention his defense, his ability to make large metres in contact and his linking/passing attributes.

I would love to see Samu, Wilson, Wright play together.

In time I think the three QLDers will be inseparable.

But I would say that.

Interesting read by Kafer on picking this years Wallabies without a player over 24 to allow them to grow as unit for next 2 RWC’s.

Jordan Uelese (23) or Folau Fainga’a (25)

Taniela Tupou (24) and Pone Fa’amausili (23) over Allan Ala'alatoa (26)

Trevor Hosea (20), Nick Frost (20) or Angus Blyth (22) over Rob Simmons (31)

Liam Wright (22), Rob Valetini or Lukhan Salakaia-Loto (23)

Fraser McReight (21) over Michael Hooper (28)

Harry Wilson (20) or Isi Naisarani (25) over Pete Samu (28)

Angus Bell can't get a starting gig at Tahs. Fa'amausili over AAA. Stopped reading after that

I used to think Kafer had quite high 'Rugby IQ'. Now I just want what he is smoking!

Props and # 12. You're kidding.

I get the concept but building a team now for 7 years away....bit much.

He talked about the young guys already have a culture of winning, well a fantastic way to stuff that up, is to throw them to the wolves too early without experienced support and watch them lose again and again. How good will their 'winning' culture be after a couple years of that?

Just using the names his given:

Scott Sio (28)
Jordan Uelese (23)
Allan Ala'alatoa (26)
Trevor Hosea (20),
Angus Blyth (22)
Rob Valetini (23)
Michael Hooper (28)
Isi Naisarani (25)
Tate McDermott (21)
Noah Lolosio (20)
Marika Koroibete (28)
Matt To’omua (30)
Jordan Petia (20)
Tom Wright (23)
Tom Banks (26)

Average age 24.2, given it's 2 years to the next RWC it's not all that bad of an idea. No one on the list is not going to be around come the next RWC, maybe someone to replace To'omua by than but for now you need a leader in the back line and I think he can mentor more than JOC (James O'Connor).

Just a random, rather left field idea - pick the best 23 players and let the young blokes win a spot if/when they earn it.

We finally have some top level experienced props who are generally performing well and we want to leave 3 of them out???? I’ll pass.

Yeh but Kafe list rules out some of those players, so you can't include them. He wouldn't select Sio, Ala'alatoa, Hoops, To'omua or Koroibete

He did say at the very end of the article "of course there would be the odd exception". I think the front row is an obvious one although Tupou deserves to start on form and meets the criteria. Maddocks also meets the criteria and probably on recent form is ahead of Banks. I would have Hooper for sure and O'connor and To'omua and run some younguns off the bench like Lolesio as a 10/12 if fit. I think if there isn't much between the older v younger player, then opt for the young one. If there is a clear drop in ability then stick with the older player.
