Wallabies 2020

I’d definitely have Simone in my squad at the moment.

I think Harrison is a terrific prospect, but I think the last two weeks have shown he needs more time in senior rugby to be considered a Wallaby candidate.

Kind of like when he first made the jump from Colts to the NRC. He had a rough time. And while he's not playing anywhere near as poorly as then (thrown to the wolves in that instance) he has shown the ability to take on the lessons from those experiences and grows as a player. So he should be much more comfortable next season and beyond after a mixed season so far.

Gee Andrew Kellaway's stocks have dropped. He was killing it pre-Covid but hasn't been a factor since. Many were picking him in their Wallaby squads at least, but it's hard to make a case for him at the moment. He's been leapfrogged for sure by Wright

Kellaway is such a smart footballer, I will always have time for him. I think in time he will be a poor man's Christian Cullen at 15.

I remember him coming through in that NSW schoolboys team that had Deegan, Moeroa, Milne, Harry Jones he was the best of the bunch. Went on to dominate at u20s but struggled to bring that same dominance to open age.

A smart but not necessarily dynamic winger like Kellaway is going to struggle to stand out at a team like the Rebels where they play a Jake White style game and he has to create all his own opportunities. He'd look good at the end of a Reds' backline where he could finish attacking forays started by others.

Tough gig when he's sitting on the end of the Rebels backline. I can't remember him getting a touch verse the Tahs. I pointed this out in the match thread but i thought you could see MK get fed up, abandon his position and started looking for the ball wherever it was at about the 50 minute mark - hence the pick and go try.

He got at least one touch, he got tackled near the line and only had to have reached out to score, but instead did the prawn and laid the ball back with his back basically on the try line and no one in front of him.

Oh yeah he butchered that, didn't he.

Lets all remember its been 3 matches since he scored a try, its hardly time to worry. For a very traditional style winger its been no surprise considering the lack of quality ball supply out wide.

I would actually say he is a non traditional/opportunist winger in that he is undersized, carries the ball in two hands, can pass/kick etc.

I have no problem with the Rebels Saffa game plan, but good Aussie attacking players like him are wasted in that system.

The system actually suits Koroibete as he will chase kicks all day, but a player like Andrew needs more ball in hand backline play to work his magic.

Lock: Simmons, Philip, Blyth, LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto)

Ouch. That cupboard is a bit bare.

Best immediate prospect is Philip. Even though his is a bit of a journeyman, he is the only 4 in Australia that I regard as physical enough for test rugby and looks a late bloomer who can play.

Blythe is a bit green bit looks good, so LSL (Lukhan Salakaia-Loto) likely to start at 5 at this point but he goes missing too often.

Seriously now, forget about Simmons he was past his best last season. A yard behind the game.

Hockings is a bloody moron.

Horwill retired but you could use Tom Murday or Michael Stohlberg or Sam Jeffries or Sam Wykes or big Hugh Pyle.

I am getting concerned with the number of sensible comments coming out

https://www.rugby.com.au/news/2020/07/30/super-rugby-au-wallabies-mckellar-patience

"I think in Australia, someone puts in a good performance and all of a sudden they're the next Wallaby," McKellar said, asked about the development of his rookie lock pairing Darcy Swain and Nick Frost.
"We've got to be a little bit more patient around that. It gets a bit ridiculous there. It does the players no favours at all."

Very happy to see Naisarani come straight back in with a strong performance. The control he showed in the 85th minute to feed his pigs before diving over was great.

In the battle for the no 8's this weekend, I thought Wilson had the better game against Samu.........

But Naisarani in his first game back was the standout.
