Mate give it up, Smith retired because he'd had it both physically and mentally. Pocock had taken his starting side, Hodgson was at the least breathing down his neck and he was operating on reputation. He did the right thing by himself and the Wobs retiring when he did - it takes a big man to know when his time's up.
On his play Waugh is probably behind Hodgson but he brings leadership, grit and downright fucking hardness to the table too.
His time wasn't up... but he'd had enough...
It's certainly not a good thing for the Wallabies that he'd retired... right now he would be an automatic bench selection, or possibly playing at no. 8 with Palu injured...
