That looks pretty good Bairdy.
I might slide Genia in for White but I could live with either. Also Horne could start with Speight to come into the game in the second half but it's a 50/50.

I don't think it would be wise to have a specialist winger (Speight) on the bench. Better to carry the versatile, all rounder (Horne or Lealiifano) on the bench to cover multiple positions to reduce the disruption to structures in case of injury or lack of form.

Agreed. I'd rather see Leali'ifano come on at 15 and Folau move to a wing than a Horne/Tomane bench winger.

lots of 50/50 calls.
Bench: Genia/White
Bench: Cooper or Lilo/To'omua
Starting 12: Lilo/To'omua
Wing: Horne/Speight/Tomane

I don't think there's an issue with having Speight on the bench on the assumption that the starting wingers are AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Horne..there's already plenty of positional coverage out there with those two plus one of To'omua/Lilo/Cooper will also presumably be on the bench. Different story if Tomane were to start though.

Only "surprises:

No Cooper on bench (but not gob smacked)
Lilo for To'omua (half expected with the way Lilo went last time)
Carter over Horwill - Chek maintaining the faith in the younger bloke moving forward to RWC. Horwill becomes a great bench option.
Alexander still there - suppose there are no options

Good to see Speight get his shot - hopefully he takes this game roughly by the balls instead of just tickling the things

Interesting comments about Horwill in various papers about him being the potential "Elsom"/"Potgeiter" of the Wobs

It's not Cheik's team, he wouldn't put both Horwill AND Skelton in the reserves. One or the other.

The earlier remark about selecting on potential was quite astute. To this end I'd have Jones in the mix somewhere.

I wrote on the front page last week we simply must plan for the future with the slow demise of Robinson, Alexander, Horwill and, dare I say it, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) (no favouritism here, in jumper order). Time stands still for no man. On Saturday Horwill played as well as he's played the last coupla years but he's not the player he was due to injuries and age. Carter looked to be growing into an international lock with glimpses of effective mongrel together with a few nice touches. Depth in the tight five is by far our most pressing problem ATM. If Cheika can go some way to addressing this he'll have made a good start, but this squad isn't making that task any easier. The lack of a good reserve THP could cruel our chances next year.

Genia and Cooper present tricky problems for Cheika: will game time bring them back to their best? I suspect a word in Quade's shell-like about too many wide passes will significantly tighten up his game. It was nice to see him do a few full-blooded tackles against the BaaBaas, take note, Kurtley.

I missed your article - link or title?
Do you say that the plan starts now: do we try to go the RWC2015 with a seasoned team of the currently best available players or one that includes players earmarked for 2019 who are not yet there?
