It certainly wasn't the finish I wanted when it was after 3am and I wanted to get straight to sleep.

Took me about half an hour to calm down after the match. Talk about an intense finish!

ahh, finally you see the benefits of no daylight savings. In bed by 2am which means I was asleep by 2:30am post mental analysis of the game.

I've had a second look at the game and what's obvious is Folau is now getting into the ruck after he passes the ball and cleaning out very effectively, finally got the skill pat down.

Yeah, I noticed that as well. In one case he made a very good cleanout which would have definitely cost us possession if he hadn't.

To go off on a tangent, I think this is one area Nic White needs to improve. Phipps has become very good at realising when he has to stop being the halfback and commit to the breakdown because otherwise we'll lose the ball.

I don't think enough has been made of Phipps breakdown skills.

When was the last time an Aussie halfback took a pilfer off an opposition first-phase movement?

I'm guessing Genia did it many times when he was the best halfback in the world. ;)

(more than hand on someone's bum or playing statues.)
+Can’t find this stuff anywhere so gathered from replays.

I'd love to see how many rucks he entered, with an effective participation.

By my count McCalman made 32 rucks with early engagement (1st or 2nd) for 23 of these (72%) and made an impact (active engagement, strong physical contact, changed shape of ruck, clean-out, etc. - more than hand on someone's bum or playing statues.) for 20 of them (63%).

His impact rate was the highest of the Forwards (McMahon 61%, Kepu & Fianga'a 57%, Slipper 55%, Hooper 37%, Carter 36%, Simmons 10%).

McMahon made early engagement for an outstanding 91% of his 33 ruck engagements.

Hooper made early engagement for only 63% of his impressive 46 rucks; the lowest early engagement of all of the starting forwards (by at least 10%).

These stats and why are the likes of McCalman & Hooper are so low on the right. These 2 have a different purpose and play different games but i thought both were very strong and I'm dumbfounded with the choices on the right - as I am with Foley - whilst not a Foley fan he showed some great game mgmt.

Not enough about his cover defence, think it was Phipps who brought down Robinson after his break. Try saving tackle IMO.

.

I thought Christian was replaced by Horne towards the end of the game. Am I wrong? In any case, his stats certainly look the goods. And those rucks that he missed were when he was wrapped around Roberts' legs even when the ball didn't get to him (Roberts).

Ah yes the intentional error. Chris was subbed at 76 mins. Thnx.

Like his work rate in defence - great for a small bloke and would like to see him get more of the ball in attack.
