I think the long term vision is to merge it into Premier/Second divisions, don't think there's a set timeline on it, though.

I suppose the issue is the fellows from 4th grade Prems and 2nd grade Div2 just aren't the type that are willing to do a 3 hour drive to a rugby game more than maybe once a season. Unfortunate but true.

You can't presume anything in club rugby. Last season Boroondara had a competitive 1st grade team as well as a 2nds and a 3rds, this year they've basically ceased to exist. The VRU presumed (with reason to do so) they they'd more down, become a 2 team club and bolster 2nd Div, it didn't play out.

Playing in NSW? Didn't BARC play in the curtain raiser on Saturday.

Deni have applied to play in the Southern Inland Competition in 2013. Not sure what BARC are doing, but they may be in a similar position. Based on travel times, they may get more games playing in SIRU.

That leaves Puckapunyal, Cobram and Bendigo.

Since Ballarat and Warrnambool play in the metro divisions.

Would be nice if Gippsland got onboard if we are to lose a club or too.

Club 7s on the weekend - hit or miss?

Wasn't there but Northern were good by all accounts (they came second), which is funny because whilst they have a few good players they are VERY far from having a structure competitive with other premier clubs.

I suppose this serves as proof that 7s is a game made for the naturally gifted.

My bad, this is what confused me. 7s is a very different beast to 15s, the good clubs often get specialist coaches in whereas I'm sure the lower ranker clubs would basically play it like a 15s game.

The table didn't convert properly when pasted in, should read like this:

Bowl winner/8 points/Northern - so effectively they came 9th of the day.

Good to see Harlequin/Melbourne Dev squads came last. Not because I wish those clubs ill-will but only because if they did better it would be a bad omen for the year.

Been keeping an eye on this post from up here in Sydney. Have we seen any new clubs created for 2013? How are player numbers looking at Juniors and at school level?

I just hope Brimbank Jnrs get up, they did well last year to get something going.

The issue with clubs is that sometimes new clubs will cannibalise other club's player pools, people want to restart the junior club in Hume City and found a senior club in Craigieburn but the VRU are against this. I suppose there's some merit but I would like to see more clubs around. Ringwood for example is 30 mins from BH and 30 mins from Moorondah and it's such a well populated area. Ah well.

Shep looked slick at the country 7s, perhaps they'll have a side this year?

How slow do you drive?!?! 10 minutes from Box Hill on the freeway and 10-15 minutes from Maroondah at most.
