Unusual that the captain at 9 would replaced and his reaplacement would also be captain, and a reserve - the former captain - would be vc.
Obviously not expecting much leadership.............

How Goddard is not in the team is a travesty....Strang should also be there.
With a young squad, Goddard Would have brought much needed composure/leadership from last year and being exposed to the super rugby environment....plus the fact he is a fantastic player.

No specialist lock on the bench.

I think Suttor may have played lock before. More of a concern is no specialist 12 with size. Still think mistake not having Morris, Wilkinson or Lough over there who are all playing Shute shield. And I think you might find there are 4 flyhalfs in the team - Kuenzle,Lucas,Harrison,Creighton????

Agree with Goddard, I think Strang turned 20 last year so too old.

After watching the replay...and all the games over the past month i can confidently say the coaching staff have been highly successful in sending a competent team backwards. Lineouts, missed tackles, handling errors, we have all seen the team play a lot better than that.In oceania we were so much more efficient maybe they need to change their preparation and do some hard contact....just like our neighbours from over the ditch do.

Anyone wanting to see a really good game, watch the Ireland South Africa game.

Although they lost, Ireland were amazing in attack. Played some great structures. Really pretty to watch.

SA changed tactics at half time and played a forwards game. Even electing to take scrums in their own half.

Quite intriguing how unprepared to pass some players were when they made a break.
9 shooting down the blindside when the blindside winger was in the line suggests someone playing to his own script.
Looked at times like a selection trial.

I don't know how Jason Gilmore can say he was pleased with the performance against Japan. So many avoidable errors and poor individual performances. Why is the team that lost to wales still being fielded? Major changes need to occur if we want to be remotely competitive against NZ. Players in specialist positions need to be performing. Mcdermott is the best option we have in regards to 9. He should start every game. No. 10 needs to improve his kicking, among other things. He struggles to create good attacking opportunities. Hopefully this is addressed for the NZ game. Starting no. 2 had a shocker. First lineout not straight, second lineout was an overthrow. Wonder what his accuracy % is?? Malolo had more of an impact in the short time he was on. The only positive was that we came away with the win. Winning against NZ isn’t impossible, although it will be if the same players are making the same mistakes.

Its a pity Hosea is injured. Hes our best forward, so far. Against NZ we need our forward pack to match the aggression in attack and the stinging in defense the kiwis are exhibiting . Ikitau is a quality player. His no fear and aggressive style unfortunately does attract injuries. A smaller man with a huge heart!! Ramm seems very handy and uses his rugby brain well(as his spectacular aerial cameo reflects). Lets hope Stewart, Petaia and Hocking's are not too jet-lagged to contribute to this 'must win' game .

The big question is "Will the team run out in red jerseys v the all blacks?" ;)
NO BS. This is not Super rugby. Its Australian U/20's. So I can assure you and the disgruntled Blues brothers . . . the team will wear the Green and Gold with pride and honor.

Goddard was kept back in Aus with the Genia injury. Would much rather him in the u20s squad but there was circumstances behind it and not an over sight from the selectors. On saying that, it's a position we are fairly stacked in at u20 level.

It's a shame Hosea is injured is a very good prospect but excited to have the Reds contingent on their way.

If we take a step back and look at the talent it's actually a fairly decent generation of players this one. You add Stewart, Petaia, Valetini, Hockings, Goddard and a few of the 7s guys for depth (Dylan Peitch, etc.) to this match day 23 and we have a fairly good crop of talent this year. Top 4 worthy. Pretty confident we would of beat Wales and probably minced Japan by more.

All isn't doom and gloom

Maybe Super Rugby needs to look at the SAF decision to start a week earlier (ino they did it for a test) but it also meant all their players were available for this tournament. Maybe on the week off we could have a Wallabies A fixture vs Ireland A or Georgia etc, to provide content
