I see Beau Robinson is in the curtain raiser. Is he coming back from injury or just out of favour (or neither?) ?

similar question for Albert Anae

Beau returning from injury.

Albert played hooker last week. With Chibba back he is moving back to Prop so I guess it is a practice thing.

I expect that this will be a pretty tough trial. The Rebels will be no pushovers for anyone this year and are just a good flyhalf away from a finals spot. That, however, is just what the Reds will need. They are away to the Brumbies and the Waratahs in their first two rounds before they get back to the Cheetahs at home. They really must win one of those two games to stay in contention and both their opponents are targeting a top two finish this year.

Very interested to see Woodward starting from the bench and Gus getting the stat over him, perhaps resting him because I think he's been very busy in the trial matches. good to see Caydern Neville back on the paddock. Ellison is a smart move to 12.

Hoping they play 20 minutes at the start of the 2nd half at full strength before giving a few guys a rest towards the end. After all this is the last hit out before the season starts.

Probably just giving them a full hit out as well, both will be lucky to be on the bench with Anae behind Hanson at Hooker and behind others at prop as well, likewise Robinson, whilst he is the next best open-side it's unlikely they will carry an extra open-side on the bench in Super Rugby.

Suppose Slipper would be happy playing at LHP - must be just about his first time there for the Reds, and Holmes equally so to get the spot at 3.

Daley is a fairly intense fellow who would be filthy at being benched - particularly after playing a good game last week - and stole a try.

Taps would be surprised (as was I) that he is warming the pine.

Gotta love games being at Ballymore!

I still think the Reds should go back to Ballymore. I know transport is the issue along with space, but sancorp just doesn't seem right.

Ballymore couldn't hold 10,000 in its current state. Needs a major overhaul. And it will never get the funding to do that to make it a major stadium again. If any, it will just remain a niche stadium, hopefully with reduced facilities.

But if a team is averaging 30,000 plus, they'd never go back to a place where two thirds of those people couldn't fit.

I thought it held more than 10,000 in a game between Qld and Auckland a few years back in a poorer state, RugbyReg?

Wouldn't read to much into it. THink Woody just seeing how the various props go where & giving them all a run. Also think he might be just trying to workout which centre combinations are the best.

It used to hold about 20k, I think. Last I heard the stadiums were decrepit, RugbyReg may be able to confirm as I expect he'd know the details. Facilities needed a major overhaul to become a decent stadium.

Note he said "current state".

Slipper is actually a loosehead. But just like Taps, he plays tighthead because we don't have one other than Greg. He started as a loosehead for the Reds, and only started playing tighthead as the prop reserve for the wobs.

Ballymore is dead as an option for the Reds. As Reg said they need a place that can seat 30K and 50K for the big games.

Its not just the overall capacity, its the corporate facilities as well, they are a very lucrative part of match day income and Ballymore just doesn't have the facilities to cope.

Holmes isn't a great scrummager at THP. He'd be behind Slipper and Owen in terms of just scrummaging at THP, and maybe Anae too now.
